Greatest Hits - Bonus Live Cd!

Re: Is THIS The Official GH Tracklist?

You're not comparing like with like.

This isn't aimed at people that buy the singles or albums. Just the opposite in fact. This is aimed at people who liked the singles but never would consider buying them because they aren't value for money.

As Worm said, Morrissey is seen as a classic artist, as part of the "canon". Many people will buy this just because of that. I don't go along with this idea that Morrissey is a love/hate figure for most people either. He is that for some people, but most people aren't really that passionate about music or Morrissey. They will just see this as an album with some catchy pop tunes on it.

Is he? I'll concede you're possibly right. I can see what you're saying. BUT.... music is so easy to come by and so disposable now, most casual listeners probably had You Are The Quarry for free and that, in the terms you are describing, as a casual music listener would suggest to me that the market for this Hits 5 CD (no Don't Mess With My Toot Toot or Frankie or Dress You Up!! Commercial suicide) is the person who listens to a CD twice. And thats being optimistic.

Hence there is no artistic integrity in this release. At all. Despite the obvious vainglorious cover. Which suggests something to me...

GH songs MAKE IT OFFICIAL MOZ!

GEEZ! I mean WHAT THE HELL!? If this HORRIBLE song list floating 'round isn't true than make a statement NOW! If the songs r 4 real than please CALL IT A DAY!

Re: Is THIS The Official GH Tracklist?

As I've posted elsewhere....

Suedehead = 5
Sunday = 9
Playboys = 6
Drug = 9
Ouija Board = 18
November = 12
Piccadilly = 18
Frank = 26
Sing = 33
Pregnant = 25
Love Life = 29
We Hate It When = 17
Fatty = 19
Certain = 35
Ignore Me = 8
Friends = 47
Interlude = 25
Boxers = 23
Dagenham = 26
Boy Racer = 36
Sunny = 42
Alma Matters = 16
Roy's Keen = 47
Satan = 39
Irish Blood = 3
First of the Gang = 6
Kiss You = 8
Jesus = 10
Redondo = 11
Killed Me = 3
Youngest = 14
Future = 17
Boy Happy = 16

Soooooooo...

Based on the actual chart positions a 13 track 'Greatest Hits' (plus two new songs) would be...

1) Irish Blood, English Heart
2) You Have Killed Me
3) Suedehead
4) First of the Gang to Die
5) Last of the Famous International Playboys
6) Let Me Kiss You
7) The More You Ignore Me, The Closer I Get
8) Interesting Drug
9) I Have Forgiven Jesus
10)Redondo Beach
11)November Spawned A Monster
12)Youngest Was The Most Loved
13)Everyday Is Like Sunday

Which is one track different to what the CD is!!

It is a greatest hits! Not a 'best of'!

Yes, but...........The songs that are "chosen" to be released as singles are debateble to say the least. A 'best of' is subjective of course but a (this) 'greatest hits' gives just a crooked few of Morrissey's career.

Here are some songs that wer never released as a single

NATIONAL FRONT DISCO
READER MEET AUTHOR
WHY DON'T YOU FIND OUT FOR YOURSELF
LIFE IS A PIGSTY
YOU'RE GONNA NEED SOMEONE ON YOUR SIDE
TROUBLE LOVES ME
SPEEDWAY
DISAPPOINTED

Re: That's how people throw up..

but even if he had delved into his back catalogue, serious fans would have the songs anyway, so does it matter that most of the tracks are off the last two albums

Re: Is THIS The Official GH Tracklist?

Its very difficult for me NOT to buy everything he releases. Its a religious thing. But this is testing my faith.

Ditto. It just doesn't seem like a tracklisting that has enough "classics" to please the old fans, and strikes me as mostly being ROTT anyway - which i certainly wouldn't use the word "greatest" about. Good, but not great.

Greatest hits/Best ofs are sort of starter packs for the new fan, I think in real-life application the term is interchangeable.

And like everyone's saying, don't most people just download individual songs and create their own best of now anyway?

Just my tuppenny. Eitherway, I'm spending my money on it. ;)

Since I Just Want to See the Boy Happy reached the same chart position as Alma Matters, I fail to see why the latter can't be included in the general release. It would certainly give a rounder picture to all phases of his solo career. Plus he has to foist a live version of the crap-ass former song on the extra disc, too. :rolleyes:

Here's a quibble that no doubt others will pick up on: note that five of the eight songs are repeats of greatest hits tracks. Fittingly, there were four other solo songs played on the night that would have made nicer bonuses (Ganglord, You're Gonna Need Someone On Your Side, I've Changed My Plea To Guilty, and Disappointed). That would have ensured that the collection could have been "all things to everyone": singles retrospective for the "casual fan" (define how you will--I don't want to reopen the semantics wound) AND nice bonus live disc of album/B-side material fit for die-hards.

Could be better, could be worse...

Cheers,

Jamie
