frankly mr. shankly

speaking to the girlfriend last night and for some reason she seems to think that `frankly mr shankly` could be about an ex-liverpool (?) manager.

i havent got a scooby doo but would be interested to find out who exactly mr. shankly is. any ideas?

The legendary Mr Bill Shankly. He was Liverpool manager from around 1957 to 1974. He built the foundations of the club and is an absolute hero on Merseyside and beyond. If you search on the internet there's loads about him.

The song is not actually about him though. Its about Geoff Travis, owner of Rough Trade Records. Its just that Shankly rhymes with frankly....
