Favourite Smiths song(s) EVER and realted video?

Thats How People Throw Up
I think similar threads have been posted like this, i had a search, but they have gone dead, i think, sorry if i am wrong.

After 3 years, i have finally decided which is my favorite ever Smiths song - "I know It's Over" - Every single time i listen to it, it sends shivers after shivers after shivers of joy and sorrow and pain and ecstasy up and down my entire body. It's so spiritual, gorgeous, sublime, fantastical. I usually can't find any words to describe this song, i'm normally completely speechless when i try and form words about it, so that is the best i can do.

My favorite ever video of it is from Wolvehampton 1986

I have also narrowed down a top 10, or rather, not top 10, more top selection, as i really REALLY tried to put them in order of preference, but i genuinely couldn't. Apart from number 1, the rest are in no particular order:

1. I know it's over
2. Barbarism begins at home
3. There is a light
4. Handsome Devil
5. How soon is now?
6. Stop me
7. Headmasters Ritual
8. Sweet and Tender Hooligan
9. Ask
10. Charming Man

What of other people? Fave EVER Smiths song, fave video of it, and top 10, in order, or no particular order?

Thank you dom. Incredibly moving video. I have to go to sleep now.

In no particular order, except for the first 5, which are a five way tie.

1. Last Night I Dreamt That Somebody Loved Me
2. Death of a Disco Dancer
3. How Soon is Now?
4. That Joke isn't Funny Anymore
5. Back to the Old House (Hatful of Hollow Version)
6. London
7. Sweet and Tender Hooligan
8. I Know it's Over
9. Unlovable
10. There is a Light That Never Goes Out

my favourite Smiths songs..almost all of them could qualify as that, haha. (ps. dom that video is fully amazing.)
(thinks) the first two are in order and after that they are all pretty much tied!

There Is A Light That Never Goes Out
Rubber Ring
Stretch Out And Wait
Reel Around The Fountain
Paint A Vulgar Picture
Asleep
Rusholme Ruffians
Ask
You Just Haven't Earned It Yet, Baby
Well I Wonder

Favourite performance of any of these songs..way too hard to choose, haha.

Moz is the only artist I have ever listened to where my top 10 list is constantly changing. Usually artists will have a few great songs and then the rest is pretty much crap. With Moz, I have thought certain songs were crap at first but after a few more listens I realize how great they really are. Some examples of songs I originally hated but now love are: asleep, the queen is dead, youve got everything now, late night, Mauldin street, you have killed me, girl afraid. I still think glamorous glue is crap but i'm sure one day it will be one of my favorites. This doesnt usually happen with other artists: you listen to it once it is crap and no matter how many times you listen to it, it remains crap. This is just a testament to the incredible lyrics that at times you may not appreciate until the day you really understand them.

Has anyone ever thought of splicing a song together using all of your favorite Moz lyrics? Bet you can make some amazing songs:

I dreamt about you last night and I fell out of bed twice
and if you must go to work tomorrow well if i were you i wouldn't bother
this position i've held it pays my way and it corrodes my soul
you are repressed but youre remarkably dressed, it is it real

Possibly the ten greatest songs ever (IMHO):

I Know It's Over
That Joke Isn't Funny Anymore
Reel Around The Fountain
Sweet And Tender Hooligan
You Just Haven't Earned It Yet, Baby
Stretch Out And Wait
Rusholme Ruffians
The Hand That Rocks The Cradle
The Boy With The Thorn In His Side
Some Girls Are Bigger Than Others

Although there's a couple that just scrape in there.

in no particular order:

01. girl afraid
02. there is a light
03. william...
04. you've got evreything now
05. the boy with the thorn
06. pretty girls make graves
07. headmaster ritual
08. i want the one i cant have
09. some girls are bigger...
10. i know it's over

i like the salford 86 of i know its over more
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Yz5JtWNwJ-k

at the end when he draggs on his shirt, then the light comes in and the white shirt glows in the light ...he k looks very angelic in there and its an mindblowing version of this wonderful song..by the way i can recommend the salford 86 bootleg (dvd/video) a very rowdy gig...especially at the end of the gig bigmout hand in glove

and rushholme ruffians (the camera zooms in to the people a the front where some shirtless boys dancing around and enjoying themselfes immensely . and .interact with moz..esp that one guy who sat on the shoulders of his friend
looks very sweaty you could almost smell it ;-)

johnny daid of the salford gig
Quote:

Johnny Marr, in a 2007 interview, when questioned about the best gig he's ever played: "Salford University in 1986 with The Smiths. The PA had to be tied down because the floor was bouncing up so high that the stage was practically falling to pieces. I've actually got that night on film somewhere. The Smiths were pretty full-on as a live band. Even the slow songs were full-on. I doubt we ever played a bad show."

bu there are far too many greAt liverversions taped on video from over the years

the smiths existed HAND IN GLOVE from glasgow barrowlands oh my god unbelievable.. such a wild gig
the youtube version misses the lst seconds where one stage invader got up on stage.kisses moz and leaves/in slow motion
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K9mUSXEzzmM

BIGMOUTH in nottingham 86
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oPgXzLTspC4
where moz helps people up on stage and dancing with them...try to imagine that today
where even the tryout for a handshake when heading to the stage are punished by the security

i also reAlly liked the HEADMASTER RITUAL version played on a tv show 85 he looks incredibly sexy in there ..the white shirt and the black blazer suits him very well...stunning...http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1ErN8QxjRsI

Impossible to order, in my opinion. I have a different favourite for every mood. That's the legacy of the Smiths.

It changes every three seconds, but one of my favourites has always been Cemetry Gates..and the video of it from the last Smiths gig, Brixton Academy I thiiink...:o

very true i think, however, i used to also think the same about Radiohead. I truly hated them, thought i could EASILY punish someone with their music, they are now VERY close if not equal contendors with The Smiths for me.

The splicing lyrics thing looks cool. Great idea. Maybe a new thread with it!? Could get some interesting combinations :)

Since EOH's heart is broken at the moment, this is the song he currently likes best.....

I know It's over

ME TOO EOH... I ran into my last love at the Heathrow airport in BAGGAGE CLAIM on my way to see Morrissey... and we walked right into one another's arms without a word and it was like Lassie come's home... when they reunite... AND THEN REALITY STRUCK!!! and a big flashing sign read
