Excerpt:

David Bowie has always been fascinated with pop music. Its part of what has driven him as an artist, the constant evolution of sound and vision which propelled him into super-stardom. It means he is more than happy to fall for a band or artist just like any other fan and has done on several occasions. As well as Lou Reed and Iggy Pop there was Pixies, Placebo and of course Devo, all of whom experienced Bowie’s adoration. For a short period, Bowie was just as swept up with the image of The Smiths’ frontman Morrissey as the rest of the country was.

Usual Far Out Magazine recycling.

FWD.

The footage (pretty poor quality) of Ronson and Bowie mentioning Rock ‘n’ Roll Suicide isn't particularly barbed and neither appear annoyed (quite the opposite - see around 4 mins in):

There is no direct attribution for the quote re: Bowie's 'dig'.
In fact, Far Out have lifted and adapted a blogger's words from 2012.

Please see 'Pushing Ahead Of The Dame' for the original post on the song with far better details & refs:

Mick Ronson’s guitar playing is wonderful on this and really steals the show here. I find it disappointing that David didn’t go with this and use Mick on the album version, or maybe Bowie just wanted to play with Mick again because he knew about Mick‘s health condition and doing this song was a good enough reason to get together maybe for the last time.

Listen to Mick playing in that video above then listen to this video below ....
