INFORMAL•DEROGATORY
an ordinary person, especially one from the lower social classes.
It's fine to denigrate and mock the working classes but don't you dare attempt to look behind the veil at the practices of the most powerful ethnic group on the planet or Verso will jump down your throat for it.
Here's a guy who takes little care with how he phrases things but will insult your use of language if he sees the opportunity to look down his nose at you. Anything for a momentary ego boost.
People with his views used to rely on the working classes and fantasise that one day they'd rise up and seize the means of production. They saw that wasn't going to happen so the "plebs" have been discarded and Verso finds himself uneasily on the the side of international capitalism now whose quest to bring as much cheap labour into your countries as possible drives down wages and raises rents and housing prices, all the while he has to lie to himself and pretend that mass immigration was always a socialist value.
The cheap labour arrives, and if you oppose it Verso along with those of a similar mindset will tell you you're racist against brown people for protesting. It's the Faustian pact to end all Faustian pacts. Capitalists get new workers, socialists get new voters and can fantasize about their future utopian society where "white supremacy" is destroyed --- they both get what they want in a twisted way, and due to your opposition to their vision they both easily identify that the problem is
you.
Verso simultaneously shills for international capitalism on this thread and rails against it. He doesn't want to be on the same side as them but he is. I remember Corbyn during a 2017 election debate admitting that too much immigration decreases wages and hits working class communities the hardest, but he was later pilloried for it by his own supporters so he never mentioned it again. For Bernie Sanders it was a similar story.* Be grateful that you're not Verso and don't have to live with this level of cognitive dissonance every day just to be able to navigate your way through life.
