Does Morrissey still like Jon Stewart after he abused a camel for a comedy bit?

Morrissey's a massive fan of Jon Stewart and "The Daily Show".

PETA has also looked hard for a way to jump on the Jon Stewart bandwagon.
For example, in their PETA Files they praise him for making a couple remarks about horses:

Jon Stewart on Manhattan's 'Sad-Eyed Carriage Horse District'
09-24-2009
On last night's The Daily Show (basically the only show I watch, other than Glee) Jon Stewart slipped in a quip about Manhattan's West Side—he called it the "sad-eyed carriage horse district."

Couple that with a recent episode in which Jon stood up to Liam Neeson's claim that the horse stables on the West Side are miniature luxury palaces, saying, "I don't think living on 52nd and 11th is a holiday for a horse," and I'd say that Jon is a regular hero for horses.

I think we should all join Jon in speaking up for horses who are abused in the carriage industry.

Well, I think Morrissey and the SoLow community should join me in speaking up for camels who are abused by television programs.

Specifically, the abuse of a camel by Jon Stewart and John Oliver of "The Daily Show".

Here's Jon Stewart's "The Daily Show" program sending a terrified camel to Madison, Wisconsin, for some lame comedy bit and nearly breaking the poor creature's leg (which would have resulted in the camel being shot dead):

I realize Democrats and other leftists are excited about protests in Madison, but I'd like to ask Jon Stewart if he thought that trip to Wisconsin was a holiday for the camel.

Yes, a camel in Madison
By Jason Stein of the Journal Sentinel
Madison -- Adding to the tragi-comic feel of the day, a camel showed up during Monday's protests and then fell on an ice and slush-covered street near the Capitol square .

The camel was brought by the comedy news program The Daily Show, which is preparing a report on the demonstrations against Gov. Scott Walker's budget bill. Demonstrators have repeatedly compared the events in Wisconsin in recent days to the pro-democracy movement in Egypt, providing an opening for satirists.

A Comedy Central spokesman was not immediately available for comment.

Notice The Daily Show's John Oliver telling the person videotaping the animal abuse to shut his camera off.

The clip will start where John Oliver tells the person to stop taking video:

The person taping this incident was Jack Craver, who writes The Sconz blog for the Madison weekly Isthmus.

What right does Jon Stewart's correspondent John Oliver have to tell someone to stop taping their animal abuse?

What an a**. :gun:

I should give a link to the person who captured this crime on videotape:

"Video: The Daily Show starts camel crisis at the Capitol!"

Some of the comments from that blog:

This terrified animal is being used for human entertainment.

From Connie McMaugh on 02/21/11 at 8:23 pm
Horrifying animal cruelty. I agree wholeheartedly with Craig.

From Steven Senski on 02/21/11 at 9:15 pm
For me, the cruelty started when they brought the poor creature out in sub-zero weather.

From Christian von Preysing-Barry on 02/22/11 at 1:26 am
Kinda funny, though definitely irresponsible on the part of Daily Show production. I'm glad you got it on tape.

One, don't bring a hooved animal on to snow and ice. Two, don't bring untrained, half ton mammal into a an urban evironment -- much less to a protest. Three, assume bringing a camel to Wisconsin in February is a bad idea to begin with.

I can't bring myself to watch the videos. The screen captures are bad enough. This is very distressing.:(

The camel turns out to be okay after some firemen come to the rescue.

Seeing as this is the first incident of camel abuse....It's a bit different than hunting or carriage pulling.
We can definitely blame them for lack of foresight, lack of preparedness, lack of thinking at all...but it's not as if they set out to hurt the camel, or that people had pointed out from previous camel incidents that it was a bad idea. They may honestly have thought that they could just trot the camel out for a few minutes, then trot him back to the transport with the camel none the worse for wear.

...Not abusive at all....The camel was actually stupid enough to try and walk in SNOW....very commonly found in Most Deserts, I believe... futter ucking senseless pricks....what the FcUk where The cupid stunts trying to acheive anyway, when they thought of THAT brilliant idea for a "Comedy" sketch...???

Well DJ my friend I think they were all trying to think of an entertaining way to fight climate change and one of them suddenly jumped out of his seat and said: "I KNOW! LET'S IMPORT CAMELS!"

One of the YouTube commenters:

Jon Oliver is a jerk. "Freedom of speech"? Practice what you preach, mate!
Peshkatari 11 hours ago

I'm not a viewer of the program. Judging by a few clips out there, this John Oliver character is apparently a Daily Show correspondent who likes to go out and stick mics and cameras in people's faces (especially at Tea Parties) and edit the footage so Jon Stewart's audence can laugh at all the stupid and crazy people out there.

This is one of the big obsessions of left-wing media: Painting people who disagree with them as mentally ill. And when they realized it was the majority of the American people who disagreed with them (angry at what single-party Democrat rule was doing to our country, and not willing to sit around and take it) Jon Stewart told his audience to come to his "Rally to Restore Sanity" event.

But, as you can see, John Oliver was quite mentally sick for thinking a camel wanted to be dragged out and forced to walk on the ice-covered sidewalks of Madison.

And he didn't much like someone else's video camera capturing what a jerk he is.

"Put that out"

Oh, well, apparently almost breaking the camel's leg didn't stop Oliver from continuing the animal abuse, judging by this post at The Democratic Underground:

According to some on twitter, John Oliver (Daily Show) is interviewing people in Madison.

He was also sighted riding a camel.

That will be a great episode!

As the person says in the final clip above, "The show will go on!"

You're right, Theo. There was an incident the other day where a performing giraffe "went nuts" while doing a milk ad with basketball player Chris Bosh. People need to demand that these things stop. The laughs are never worth it. Why would anyone expect a giraffe to behave like a dog in a huge room full of noisy people?

After the camel was finally able to get up, "the show can go on" (clip starts at that part):

And so it did:

The Daily Show's John Oliver is in Madison, as Twitter users have been excitedly noting. Both @evale72 and @joshorton snapped photos
jonoliver2.jpg

So, even after they knew the camel was hating being abused in this manner, and even after they almost broke the camel's leg (which, again, would probably have led to the camel being shot dead), The Daily Show went ahead with their comedy bit.

And the Daily Show fans can't wait to see it.

And they'll probably win another Emmy from Hollywood.

They're "restoring sanity" by riding a camel around the capitol square in Madison.

I didn't need this to comfirm that Jon Stewart was deplorable. It reaffirms my judgment though.

I hear that this Jon (John?) Stewart regularly gets up to this kind of thing at the expense of God's creatures. I can't find the link now, but there definitely is one, and I've heard all kinds of people have seen all kinds of stuff on the YouTube. This Jon (John?) Stewart is evil and that evil is intrinsically linked to his leftist leanings/democrat credentials. Or something.

If you're a Morrissey fan and you think this John (Jon?) Stewart (Stuart?) is 'cool' then you can't be a Morrissey fan at all because he basically rapes camels for laughs. Big time.

maybe there is something wrong with me  but my liking of Jon Stewart and Morrissey are completely independent of each other
and I really could care less what one thinks of the other
but you stay on top of this for me  OK, Theo? :thumb:
if that is your real name :p

That doesn't surprise me about Chris Bosh. He's a real jerk who betrayed Toronto to play with the most despicable athlete in America, LeBoob James. I can only hope they never win a title.

This kind of abuse of animals should be outlawed, IMO.

You'd think the entertainment business would be ashamed of their history of abusing animals.

For example, here's one of the more infamous scenes of animal abuse from Hollywood:

The Charge of the Light Brigade: Twenty-five horses were killed during the filming of this famous battle. The carnage was so intense that congress, for the first time, began to look at the issue of cruelty to animals in film.

That's what the entertainment biz will do to animals if we don't keep them in check.

I was asking for Morrissey and the SoLow community to join me in condemning it, that's all.

PETA went out of its way to praise Jon Stewart for this:

On last night's The Daily Show (basically the only show I watch, other than Glee) Jon Stewart slipped in a quip about Manhattan's West Side—he called it the "sad-eyed carriage horse district."

So, PETA held Jon Stewart up as a "hero for horses" for a couple offhand comments. That's all it took to get them singing his praises, I guess because Jon Stewart is the toast of the town in certain circles.

Shouldn't someone at PETA say something about Jon Stewart's abuse of this camel? Since it kinda totally undermines what they praised him for?

They've said something about similar incidents involving camels.

From the PETA Files:
Camel Falls Into Pageant Crowd (Video)
12-14-2010
A camel who was being used in a Christmas pageant at First Baptist Church in West Palm Beach, Florida, fell into the audience after stumbling when her handler attempted to force her to lie down.

Thankfully, the camel, LulaBell, wasn't hurt (nor were the stunned folks she fell on), but other animals used in passion plays, live Nativity scenes, and holiday photo ops haven't fared so well. Animals have been savagely beaten, hit and killed by cars after bolting, sexually assaulted, suffocated, and stolen and slaughtered.

We understand that LulaBell was rented from a company called Animals in Motion. The company's owner, Tim Rivers, has a history involving illegal animal trafficking, cruelty to animals, and U.S. Department of Agriculture violations.

We've called on First Baptist Church to stop using animals in displays, events, and so on. If a church in your area uses live animals in holiday promotions, please politely urge it to end the practice and to give animals a reason to celebrate too.

They were all over that one, and I agree with them.

So where's their investigation into The Daily Show's camel incident? For the camel at the church, they looked into where the camel came from, what the camel's name was, what company rented the camel, and what that company's history is. Well, who was the camel handler for Jon Stewart and John Oliver? He didn't look like he knew what he was doing. Was it even legal to have this camel at the capitol square?

Unlike the church, would it be too uncool to go after a fashionable person like Jon Stewart?

Because The Daily Show is basically the only show they watch. Well, outside of Glee.

Because Glee co-stars vegan singer Lea Michele.

And, from PETA's web site: Lea Michele Exposes Horse-Drawn Carriage Cruelty

Good for her. And I agree with her. (And I also was praising her the other day for being the only decent musical act at the Super Bowl.)

But shouldnt PETA be chastising The Daily Show?

I'll stay on top of this for ya, Robby. :)

I haven't heard PETA chiming in yet, even though they previously held Jon Stewart up as a "hero". But one animal group has issued a comment:

The Alliance for Animals said, “Tell them that animals are not props to be used for low-based humor. Let’s keep the cows, the camels, the pigs, the elephants out of the entertainment business. We can find enough humor from humans.”

2728812_431.jpg

BTW:

From Wiki:
The Alliance for Animals operates Boston's only no-kill shelter for cats and dogs.
:)

A no-kill shelter. That right there puts them on higher ground than PETA: PETA Killed 95 Percent of Adoptable Pets in its Care During 2008. See also, Newsweek: "Since 1998 PETA has killed more than 17,000 animals...."

I'll never forget when various veterinarians and others were outraged to find out that adoptable cats and dogs they had entrusted to PETA were instantly killed in the PETA van and tossed in dumpsters behind a Piggly-Wiggly.

Is it too "uncool" for PETA to investigate The Daily Show's abuse of this camel as they did with the incident with the abused camel at the church a couple months ago?

How come The Daily Show's Olivia Munn, a member of PETA, hasn't said a word?

Here she is holding up a sign urging us to boycott the circus:

4795874052_32866ced33_b.jpg

Shouldn't she protest and boycott her own show, too?

Has she demanded that her employer agree to never again hire companies like the animal-abusing company they rented this camel from?

Or does she just like promoting her own celebrity status?

olivia-munn-peta-006-400x600.jpg

Olivia Munn was spotted at a PETA New York Fashion Week Party as the Daily Show correspondent hosted it along with Tim Gunn.

Hmm:
Daily Show correspondent Olivia Munn [backs] a new bid to ban the use of animal pelts at [an] event by animal rights group PETA. The campaign launched last night with a party at the Manhattan boutique of Stella McCartney, who is also a passionate animal rights campaigner. Though the British designer was not present - she has just given birth to her fourth child - there was a host of animal-friendly fashionistas present in support of the cause.

Merriam-Webster: Definition of FASHIONISTA
: a designer, promoter, or follower of the latest fashions

The fashionistas love The Daily Show, and we've seen evidence that PETA cares more about courting the fashionistas than they do about animals entrusted to them.

Are they gonna brush this one under the rug and pick up the subject again next Christmas when some square church rents a camel?
