Depeche Mode frontman Dave Gahan would be working on new material for his new solo album, the first since his 2003 solo debut "Paper Monsters" so reports indicate. The news has not been confirmed so far. Rumours that Gahan would be recording at the Paris Studio Guillaume Tell have been denied according to the DM fansite Home. However, the studio itself did not want to say 'yes' or 'no' when we contacted them last week. In more related news, Dave Gahan will be performing 2 songs at the Third Annual MusiCares MAP Fund(SM) Benefit Concert on May 11 to Honor Chris Cornell and Jeff McClusky. He'll be joined on stage by Victor Indrizzo (Beck and Macy Gray), Vincent Jones (Sarah McLachlan) and Martyn LeNoble (Porno for Pyros, Janes Addiction and the Cult). The event takes place on May 11. Tickets will be roughly 1000 US$ and more and besides Gahan, the evening will also feature performances by Army of Anyone featuring Richard Patrick from Filter, Dean and Robert DeLeo of Stone Temple Pilots and Ray Luzier; Gary Lucas (Captain Beefheart and Gods And Monsters); Kenny Wayne Shepherd with Noah Hunt and Double Trouble's Chris Layton and Tommy Shannon; next to a special performance by Cornell himself.

Echh. Nearly 2 years since Playing The Angel and he is recording a solo album. Which means no new DM anytime soon. I wish he would stick to the songs Martin Gore writes for him.

This rumour was posted on DMMB which of course BRat said is not true. However, its still nice to know it could be true. Id rather another Depeche album obviously, but if Dave is making another solo, i hope he works with Peter Gordeno, christian Eigner and Philpott. I heard he also had leftover songs from PTA, so if he uses those songs, it could be a good album, better than Paper MOnsters.

Maybe a tour if it is true? Would make my friend very happy if it is true!

I'd go see him if he tours--simply because it would be cool to seem him in such an intimate venue. And his songs on PTA were MUCH better than his solo record--so maybe it's not so bad.

Yeah, he did small, intimate venues last time. If his songs are as good as the ones on PTA, then it will be something!

I feel the same way. To bad I have to wait even longer for new DM muisc and a tour. Man I need to see DM on tour!!:( It is so much easier being a Moz fan and am glad I am!!
