about it is that he totally sucks......morrissey has a @#!!!load of stuff....he has been cranking out the @#!!! for years and this david gray gets all this attention for what ehhh having a british accent?
i guess that movie josie and the pussycats did have a point when it comes to music

josie and the pussycats kicked ass as a movie

in some shots you could see tara reids buttcrack!

that rachel leigh cook is also nice to look at

you morrissey fans would get a kick out of josie and the pussycats
the performances were great and the movie deals with artists in the indie music scene

@#!!! the band travis

From what I understand, David Gray has had a rough unrenumerative career. He has all kinds of trouble with record companies. The album "White Ladder" is not available in stores and is only available through internet or whatever. He started like many many years ago but never had this kind of success (which in my opinion is very limited).

I love David Gray, He has this modern folk thing going on. It's the only type of folk music that I can listen to and not get depressed unlike Tracy Chapman's "Fast Car".

well mike, i have to back you up on liking david gray.
but i have no idea where you got this insane idea that "the white ladder" isn't available in stores. i assure you it is, and has been since its release.

poor morrissey....

um, actually david gray rose to his current level of success over the course of many years. nothing was handed to him. i saw him open for kirsty maccoll many years ago and was immediately impressed with his performance. i for one am glad he's found commercial success - he deserves it.

i won't argue with you about your taste in music - if you don't wanna like mr gray, that's your business. at least david has a knack for catchy pop music and doesn't grumble about not having record deals whilst living in sunny l.a. if morrissey wanted to make a record he could, and could get it released...but that doesn't mean it would be any good, or that anyone would buy it...

i don't feel sorry for morrissey in the least. nor would i slag off travis or david gray for being able to write intelligent, tuneful music tha people enjoy.

Yeah, I wouldn't really feel too sorry for Morrissey.

To me, the whole thing is "don't you know who I am?" and they respond, "yes, we know who you were! give us a reason why we should give a guy who we know is capable of writing This Charming Man with some of the best musicianship you could hope to find, a load of cash when they are going to give us Dagenham Dave instead" and in response he pretends he doesn't know what they're talking about.

Morrissey, not even Moby can save Dagenham Dave. Don't you see how people jumped all over Lost? It was produced by a relative no-name. There lies within a clue.

I agree with the comment about Travis. Their album was one of the better purchases I made last year.

but I haven't developed much of an opinion on David Gray either way.

I got the idea from the internet I suppose it's available

Re: poor morrissey....

I think David gray is great but I haven't bought his record yet if you haven't formed an opinion yet well I suppose you will eventually. That Babylon song is really great even though it's been made trite be continous airplay. To me the most appealing about the song is that it is about personal redemption and not suicide, poverty, or any of those depressing folk themes

Re: poor morrissey....

I don't feel sorry for moz too. He's had a good career, whatever comes hence is just surplas talent. I could write little pop songs but would it really be that satisfying.

Travis comment

I completely agree. The Last Laugh of the Laughter even occasionally makes me cry. Travis is so good and I think The Man Who was a definite improvement over Good Feeling (although I still like Good Feeling but not as well)

me neither; but I am still intrigued.

Sorry.. Travis 'The Man who..' is easy listening indie pop for the masses.. They certainly rock live and thats when you appreciate 'Good Feeling' for the good rock album it is..

Incidentally, I have a live version of 'As You Are' which has the most beautiful guitar break in it.. it sends shivers up my spine..

David Gray?.. Again, I must say I think he is the new 'Sting'.. and to think Sting was that good looking rebel in the Police who brought punk pop to the masses.. Yet all the time there was something so 'pleasant' just lurking there waiting to sell millions of records all the time. I was disappointed I must say!

They don't appeal to the masses as much in the US. In fact, it took a hell of a long time (well, in my impatient opinion) for The Man Who to get released here. I had to buy it on import. I think the album is a good one and it reaches me in a very emotional and real way. that's really all I can ask for when I pay a mere 20 bucks. You can't put a price on some songs.

sounds good.

well I haven't heard him myself.

one more thing-Sting/The Police

In regards to the Police, I own some of their albums and they can be fun although I usually don't get into Police moods so they often go unlistened to (well, atleast for the last four years or so). In regards to Sting's solo project, most of the stuff that has come out recently appears to be shlocky crap that is unappealing to me BUT I have to say that Sting has put out one of my favorite albums of all time (although perhaps for sentimental reasons) called The Dream of the Blue Turtles. So, I've got to cut him some slack overall.

I agree.. The first album is the only one I own.. which is a minor classic.. 'Bring on the Night', 'The Beds too Big without You'.. but I never bought it on CD!! It languishes in the loft (sorry, attic) gathering dust on its blue vinyled surface!

Point taken.. 'The Dream of the Blue..' I have heard is OK!! I shall say no more. But who am I too pass judgement!! I am rellay a pleasnt optimist about mucis.. but commercialism turns me off..

And yes, I saw your remarks about Hole versus Travis!! There's another debate. I do like Travis.. I saw them at the Astoria before 'The Man Who' broke huge over here and it was a great gig, memorable songs 'Happy', 'All I wanna do is rock', 'U16 Girls'.. really entertaining and it rocked.. and that's just before songs like 'Driftwood' started to get loads and loads of commercial air ply.. and like I said.. commercialism breeds my backlash!

I saw Hole about the same time.. and I must say that Courtney Love is the archetypal rock chick.. angel wings and a tutu.. foot on the monitor crashing out pwoer chords.. women playing guitars is so sexy.. BUt as for courtney, well, I would be quite scared of an 'advance' (in the unlikely event that would happen) from her.. A great gig though.

But I have heard the new Travis album is a return to rock form and is very good.. so maybe awaited with some anticipation!

PS, Buy the Turin Brakes 'Optimist LP'!!
