Charlie Megira

The Wild Turkey

Wild T!
Turkerator
Born Gabi Abudraham, he took on the alter ego of Charlie Megira after bein' hit in the
head with a bottle durin' an early performance.
Although his head was bleedin' from bein' hit, he continued to perform until he collapsed
on stage.
When he gained consciousness, Charlie Megira was born.
Charlie came from watchin' the picture Apocalypse Now and hearin' the name Charlie bein'
used to describe the Viet Cong soldiers.
Megira was his Mother's maiden name.
Charlie Megira would go on to create his own unique style of rock 'n roll.
Some say his music sounds like the soundtrack to a lost David Lynch picture.
Some say he looked like that guy from the picture Johnny Suede.
Due to his penchant for makin' outsider art and creatin' on the cusp of internet accessibility,
Charlie Megira remains some what of a mysterious figure.
This here thread will explore his life and music.

When I translated this on google, it came out as "Rock In Hebrew",
but it kinda sounds like a cover of Teenagers In Love.

They say Charlie spent time studyin' on spiritual teachings.
He would study on Krishnamurti, Gurdjieff, Ouspensky and Carlos Castaneda.
They also say he was interested in the New Testament teachings of bein' born again
and the transfiguration of Jesus.
Gabi Abudraham born again into Charlie Megira.
Charlie playin' the guitar like a Gurdjieff Dance.
He seemed to be in this world, but not of it.

Hi Wild T. Here's a rich profile of Charlie Megira, born only in 1972, and coming to a tragic end while developing a cult following around the world - https://numerogroup.com/blogs/stories/charlie-megira-a-sun-shining-backwards

Reminds me of Rodriguez, and deserving of a similar documentary, Searching for Sugarman, which is amazingly available here - https://watchdocumentaries.com/searching-for-sugar-man/

It is nice to hear Megira's songs, and about your impressions and encounters : )

Yep, I seen that numero story.
Seen that Sugar Man one too.
There's a doc about Charlie too, but in fittin' fashion,
it's not easily accessible.
His friend made it, but as far as I can find, the only
way to watch it is on Vimeo.
I ain't watched it yet.
Guess I'm just waitin' for the right time.

Charlie was a fan of The Smiths.
They say that although Scotty Moore from Elvis's band was Charlie's
biggest inspiration, his first guitar hero was Johnny Marr.
Other big guitar influences on Charlie were Johnny Thunders and
Link Wray.

The persona of Charlie Megira was used by Gabi Abudraham as a
way to stay a few steps ahead of the hell hounds on his trail.
In Charlie's world, nothin' could bring him harm.

A persona as a way to stay a few steps ahead of the hell hounds: well put. Aren't we all at it in some form or other?

Some say Charlie came from a past (yesterday) that never existed,
lived in a present (today) that never listened and departed to a
future (tomorrow) that's gone missin'.
