Cemetry Gates

EDIT: Kewpie, I never knew that kind of thing was still happening in the 20th century. Your mother must be a very strong woman, I don't think I could do that.

No, my mother was a naive child, didn't know what was happening to her mother's body. Naturally she fainted when she saw the decomposed body.
The area where I'm from is very different from mainland Japan, had strong connection with China and still has many primitive ancient traditions and rituals.
Most of us do not have a grave, we rest our family members to a moutuary which also came from ancient China.
Our many traditional dishes' main ingredient is pork.
One of the college lecturers told us that in medival time there was a ritual.
When a family member dies they cooked part of his/her body and ate in order to commemorate the dead.
However, the authority sensed that it'd lead cannivalism, so they banned it and encouraged to breed pigs.

If I wasn't inquisitive and hadn't read the article I wouldn't had known about this awful tradition.
Possibly most of my friends still don't know about it.
