The Cat & Fiddle restaurant and pub to close in December - LA Times

Excerpt:

The Cat & Fiddle restaurant and pub, the iconic spot on Sunset Boulevard known for its large courtyard patio and musician crowd, will close in December after 32 years in business, Eater LA reported.

According to owner Ashlee Gardner, who owns the restaurant along with mother Paula Gardner, a specific date for the closing has not yet been set.

"Looks like the landlord would prefer a chain to move into this gorgeous building instead of having us here," Gardner said. "The landlord lives out of town and doesn't really know Hollywood. He just knows Hollywood is booming and he can get a heck of a lot more money."

Gardner's mother and father opened the original Cat & Fiddle on Laurel Canyon Boulevard in 1982, then moved the restaurant to Sunset Boulevard in 1985. Over the years, Gardner says her father, Kim, who was part of the British rock invasion of the '60s, drew people to the restaurant from the music and entertainment industries. Christopher Lloyd, Drew Barrymore, Morrissey and more celebrities are all regulars.

Maybe Moz has bought it so he can enjoy a quiet pint without all the stalkers harassing him?

A major chain is moving in.

But yeah, those idiots Clover Dean and Johnny in a Coma always waited outside when they knew he was there. Does the hostess call them or something?

This really does suck. This place is the only place I have seen Morrissey (3 times) in a normal environment eating and drinking and everyone would actually follow an "unwritten law" to not go up to him and ask for selfies or autographs.

I think one of his handlers tips them off somehow because they always brag about knowing stuff about him before it happens and when he's going to be at the airport and which gate specifically...they have know someone inside.

How many handlers does the man need? Can he do anything himself?

But yeah, I imagine seeing that idiot with the glasses waiting at the airport after Morrissey had gotten off of a flight from London to LA wasn't too wonderful. Then two nights later they are waiting outside the Cat and fiddle. And she's been hanging out with Kevin Cummings. It's these types of people that is going to make Morrissey want to avoid fans completely.

so much history, loved driving by wondering if Morrissey was in there. "Hippest place apart from the Cat and Fiddle of course". He doesn't seem to come to LA as much lately. Several times last year.

Oh my god. it's Robby!

f***, I was planning on a visit back home in April and this was one of the places I wanted to take a walk down memory lane at :(

ps: "L.A. is timeless" but in the exact opposite manner of China where much seems to have been there forever and will always remain so
where as is L.A. is always the land of the new, even the buildings and all within them don't usually last for even a single person's lifetime...

I thought that this place was fair game to say hello to Morrissey? Isn't this referred to in "I'm Playing Easy to Get"? Not that I've been.

Thats why he goes there to be isn't it, to be worshipped? Thats what I used to think. I was wrong though. I was in the C&F last year, in LA for the Morrissey gigs my friend and a few others tried to talk to him and his bouncer said "No" and sent them away.
The only person he spoke to was an English guy who really fucking looked like his younger self. Morrissey even got up to speak to the guy, had a chat with him and smiled to him on the way out. Maybe they know each other?
The English guy was a bit of a dick, he wouldnt speak to any of us fans when we tried to find out if he knew Morrissey at all
Wasn't Morrissey sick this time last year? Maybe thats why he didnt speak to people. C&F had kick ass veggie burgers

Does he go anywhere without security? I would want to be alone! Even Ben affleck runs errands without a damn bodyguard. Morrissey could walk down the street in my city and nobody would know who the hell he is.

What makes you think he doesn't? I would imagine he goes out alone when he's not likely to be spotted (and, let's face it, likely accosted) by fans. We wouldn't know about it, because—well, logic.

If you try to piece together the entirety of a person's existence based only on what you can see, you're not going to wind up with a very complete picture.

I've seen many photos of him all on his own, sans security. Those pics are usually my fave because he's just loafing about like a normal person. Remember the one of him by the pool that someone snapped over their shoulder? LOL! The guy gets around and he doesn't always have muscles and brawn on his arm (or Damon, for that matter). Haha!
