Do you call it this in England?

Um, we know '"the bird" but generally I think we are more descriptive and say it's "giving the middle finger". Way back in, er, '82, it was common for kids to say "swivel" for added emphasis, but why anyone would want someone to swivel on their middle finger is beyond me, particularly as they don't like that other person.

I am married to a teacher who teaches kids with "complex needs". Her advice is to "ignore the bad behaviour and praise the good behaviour". This advise should be taken on by us all. Ignore Brummie, Benny etc. They will soon go away if no one responds to their posts. There is always a tendency to try to put them down with either a witty one liner or a balanced argument - but it is just fuel to the fire. Please from now on IGNORE THE BAD BEHAVIOUR. The Cardiff gig post has been taken over by people who either did not go to the gig or just want a platform for their drivel. It would be nice to hear more about the actual gig.

Mozzers Cat.

Looks like sound advice.

Did he use the inhaler again?

He seemed in good health, didn't see him use inhaler but he may have.

Not much 'banter' though.

Didn't catch the support act and the cheeseburger stall outside was doing a steady trade afterwards.

Crowd were respectful, but he really needs to,rethink what venues he is playing as 50 quid is a lot of money.

People I know who went who think he's a bit of a twat enjoyed it, praising the quality of his vocals.

brummie/benny often make excellent logical arguments, that are not addressed. for example, why bother having a peta booth when you are selling cheese goujons in the very lobby where the booth is located. does anyone here see the hypocrisy in that.

further, just about everyone at a moz gig knows all about the animal rights pov, does he need to club his fans over the head with it?

This is the first sensible post on the site for months.

BB etc. despite their illiterate claims, have nothing else in their little lives to occupy their time. Unemployed, sexually frustrated and friendless they sit alone, typing the same moronic nonsense with their pudgy, semen stained fingers, thinking that it gives their existence some worth or credibility. Why else would they devote "endless hours" to ridiculing an ageing singer? It just doesn't make any sense.

Ignore them. Don't copy their pointless threads. Don't give them further opportunities for mutual masturbation by responding to their comments.

I was at Nottingham on Friday and thought it was a grand night out. Yes, the audience were a bit flat in places, but then the original Smiths fans are now all pushing 50 so it is not going to be like the glory days. The set list looks more rounded with the addition of 'TLM' and 'FotGtD'.

I hope those who attended enjoyed the gig.

You have TOTALLY described my life! I'm sitting here in *Mom's Basement* doing all the things you describe. It's almost as if you are watching me! *rollseyes*

Just ignore me in the same way as you ignore Morrissey selling Cheezy Paninis whilst PETA look the other way.

well the act doesnt control the food in the venue as they can only request so when they cant get what they want and still want to play a place they like for fans they like they throw in peta to at least offset the incident with an alternative message. whats confusing about that. i think people have a confused idea about what the artist has control over with there show sometimes. seems a reasonable response to me. what else would you have them do, not play anywhere at all

^THIS!

Morrissey uses 'animal rights' as just another element of his fake RADICAL CHIC. He might shock clueless suburbanites but anyone who knows anything about these issues sees him as a total fool, faking it, hamming it up histrionically during 'Meat Is Murder' whilst endorsing the Milk/Cheese/Veal Axis Of Evil by selling Cheezy Paninis and Gougons. He's a flake, a crank, a crackpot. Great singer, mind. However, enjoying his tragic songs about his epicFAIL romantic car-crash life doesn't mean you have to drink the Kool Aid over all this PETA propaganda. I'm vegan but every single carnivore in the audience should just LOL! when he sings 'Meat Is Murder'. Cheese Bleeds. He's as implicated as anyone at the burger van afterwards. NOBODY had presented a single logical response which invalidates my arguments. We see this behaviour with cult figures whether they're C List celebrities, religious or political leaders. Because they're admired for their singing/preaching/policies in one area there's a mass hallucination to ignore the nonsense in other areas. I have absolutely no problem with enjoying lots of his music whilst ridiculing his absurd posturing over animal rights. He's become a tragi-comic figure, entering his dotage with the detritus of his earlier years come back to haunt him and reduce him to a pantomime clown. His choice. I choose to be amused whilst selectively enjoying and seeing the value in some of his more nuanced, heartfelt personal pleas. It's all good. For me, anyway.

He doesn’t like the Royals. He doesn’t like the Tories. And heaven help you if you’re a carnivore.

It’s 30 years since The Smiths bothered the charts with their jingly-jangly indie guitar and Steven Patrick Morrissey’s outsider schtick saw him flail gladioli around concert venues and wear hearing aids on Top of the Pops, but for the crowd in Cardiff it could have been last week, and none the worse for it.

The pop star who is incomparable with our modern idea of pop stars, the politician who could have been - except his one vice is deliberately getting people’s backs up.

‘Tonight,’ he announces, ‘will be death... or dishonour’, before plunging into The Queen is Dead, a Smiths standard and a beacon for the assembled crowd.

Showing some incendiary pictures of the Queen and Kate’n’Wills - bearing the legend ‘United King-Dumb’ - the Mancunian nailed his colours to the mast early on.

This after a half-hour video mixtape of his favourite cultural moments which included Ramones, Visage, James Cagney, the New York Dolls and Edith Sitwell - a barrage of cultural imagery from a man who’s never stayed still in his career.

From The Queen is Dead straight into solo Moz with the 1988 hit Suedehead, the efficiency of his band at whisking through their repertoire was at times dizzying.

‘Do you know what age I am now?’ he growls at one point. ‘I’m 32’.

He’s actually 55, but age has not withered him, nor custom staled his infinite variety for a mass of bobbing bald heads and wilting quiffs, given either to the iconography of the star in front of them or the legend that he represents.

Although there was more room in the setlist for his classics - not a sniff of This Charming Man or The More You Ignore Me, The Closer I Get – the very idea that anyone would tell this monument to individualism how to construct his setlist is laughable, so on he went, whipping from last year’s album lead single World Peace is None of your Business to What She Said, a Smiths album track from 1985’s Meat is Murder, all to swooning gasps and rallying whoops from a captivated crowd.

If getting people’s backs up is Morrissey’s stock in trade, he could have tried a lot harder here.

There is ABSOLUTELY NO DIFFERENCE between a beefburger and a cheese panini. If Morrissey bans one arbitrary food item only to replace it with an equally cruel product, then the gesture is pointless other than as a vanity project. Which is what his entire animal rights blather is: it's all about Morrissey's image. And PETA are exactly the same, hamming it up for publicity whilst gassing thousands of dogs and cats. It takes a lot of time, money and patience to rehome stray pets, but PETA can't be bothered, they'd rather camp out at arenas preaching veganism whilst the C list Celeb who invited them is munching a cheese panini backstage. It couldn't be more ridiculous. I'll stop going on about this when Morrissey stops singing his ridiculous 'Meat Is Murder' dirge. He claims to be an intellectual but shows no evidence whatsoever of Critical Thinking on these issues. Does Buffy Sainte Marie still eat fish as part of her ancestral diet? Did she put up with dietary restrictions at Cardiff? If so, she's another fool.

If you eat cheese, you may as well eat veal as you're robbing the calf of it's milk and condemning it to death. So Morrissey can take his Torture/Slaughter Porn visuals from 'Meat Is Murder' and replace them with the truth about where the milk that makes the Cheezy Paninis he sells comes form. If he sells cheese, he is still selling hamburgers as the dairy cows are killed for hamburgers once they can no longer yield milk for his cheesy diet. Morrissey has wasted over 3 decades of his life pretending to be an 'animal rights activist'. That is part of his fascinating tragedy.

I am enjoying my return to this site. For all those who don't like what I write: f*** off. I can walk away as often as I like and return at will, on a whim, until and unless the site proprietor decides to ban me. Which would be an entirely hilarious ending, given he too has faced Morrissey's censorious nonsense. Morrissey is against Free Speech and seeks to limit Free Eating by arbitrarily banning Meat whilst serving Cheese. Thank goodness he is just another harmless C List Singer and not anyone with any power or influence. Imagine if he was in a position of political power?

There were a lot of youngsters in attendance last night.....

I would say 50/50 mix of people over and under 30.

Better reactions on Twitter to gig than this cesspit of shit by the way

Be kind. it's not their fault. i have a case in my family, and it's very hard on the relatives and friends. the internet offers a vent for the emotions otherwise thrown at their real-life acquaintances.

I have never thought of Morrissey's outbursts on TTY in relation to BPD but it's not without merit as a framework of understanding. I think he is just a spoilt pampered celebrity brat. I'm not aware of him having disclosed a diagnosis of BPD whilst discussing his visits to psychiatrists. I'm sure he'd share it with the world for column inches if he'd been certified as BPD. Brat is a more succinct diagnosis, I feel.

Thank you for sharing your insights on this topic. However, this thread is about the Cardiff gig so please revert to the topic under discussion.

Ok mate !??!??!

Where does Goats Cheese fit in to your increasingly absurd rantings? You really should do something constructive with your time rather than suffering from Keyboard Asperger syndrome

Crowd were respectful, but he really needs to,rethink what venues he is playing as 50 quid is a lot of money.

Sometimes I am confused by such statements because I really thought the audience had realized by now that there is no big touring future for Moz ahead anymore. Therefore there is nothing to rethink. We won't wake up tomorrow and see Moz announce extensive tours around the world. He will add some smaller venues here and there but because the total number of gigs will be reduced there have to be bigger venues.

Yes, his schtick is a clownish wind-up. In other words he's a troll. A singing, prancing troll but that's about it. He's never stayed still in his career, he's just gone round and round in ever decreasing circles like a wind-up troll-doll. A singing Smurf who still thinks he can joke about age after telling others to "get off of the stage!" He now Fades To Grey, his quiff a mirror of the mid-life baldy bastard life crisis and Grecian 2000 quiff casualties that make up his ludicrous audience, with their poor children dragged along after a miserable teenage of being indoctrinated into this dad-rock cult. Morrissey couldn't wind up his core audience if he burst into flames on stage, they'd just think it was another Diva stunt that adds to his supposed 'legend'. No wonder he loathes festivals even if he has to play them now to pay the bills, he has to face an audience that hasn't drank the Kool Aid.

Without meaning to, this review nails Morrissey as a pantomime pseud. His act is indeed a schtick that he's been parading across the world's stage for 33 years. Get Off Of The Stage! Etc. At least he hasn't ended up bitter and twisted into rage by his failure to be a world class celeb and is now reduced to ignoring the evidence half-full arenas. That would be a dire fate, though obviously not as bad as mocking him on a web forum.

It's apparently 'normal' to waste £50-70 to watch this schtick and to queue up for hours to be in the cess-pit of fans, but wryly mocking him online because there's a smog alert and you can't walk the dog is a sign of mental illness? Yeah, right....ahem!

A shtick is a comic theme or gimmick.....presentation or sales pitch, from yiddish slang, implying phoniness or slickness, lack of substance with focus on style.....a routine. This could refer to a number of different things, but generally refers to a type of comic routine

Some people give veganism a bad name and detract and distract from animal welfare - which is a shame.

Anyway, back to the subject: The capacity of the Cardiff Arena appears to be 7,500 which is a big venue to sell out on a Tuesday night, so I'm not surprised that it didn't. I don't know how many thousands Morrissey played to but I hope they had a good time and some good will come of the messages he's promoting

Agree, it's ridiculous that you have to go on Twitter to find out about a gig as this Morrissey site has become bogged down with all this crap. One answer would be for the mods to tell folks to put other stuff in another thread other than the gig thread.

There's substance to the wry mocking but really is there any need on a review of a gig to post multiple long-winded streams of consciousness concerning a C-list singer who you supposedly think is a hypocritical failed cheese-eating surrender monkey? And he still cannot speak French.

It's a nice day outside, spring is on its way and all you can do is complain about cheese paninis in the Cardiff Motorpoint Arena.

I'm no doctor but there must be healthier ways to spend your free time.

13 posts on a gig you didn't attend. That's f***ing amazing
