I'm off for a weekend to Helsinki next week (wedding anniversary and such), and was wondering if there are any nice record shops I could visit while there, and if so, where can they be found?

Ta,

Peter

Peter, you should send a PM to Ilmare who lives in Finland, but don't know if she lives in Helsinki.

Hi Peter,

try these:

Stupido Shop: http://www.stupido.fi/shop/index,eng.php
Popparienkeli:http://www.popangel.fi/k.cgi?ka=09F...angel.html&avattava=rightangel.html&kieli=ENG
Keltainen Jäänsärkijä: http://www.kolumbus.fi/levykauppa/mita.html

You will find many specialist record shops around Viiskulma ("five corners"). Popparienkeli is one of them but should you wish to hunt down jazz, reggae or hip-hop (God forbid), try these:

Digelius: Laivurinrinne 2, www.digelius.com
Eronen: Laivurinrinne 2, www.dubjazzsalsa.com
Lifesaver: Laivurinkatu 41, www.lifesaver.net

If you need any help with the websites that don't have an English language option, PM me - but before Sunday as I'll be off to New York!

Annica

Excellent! Many thanks for these!

And believe me, she won't mind. I've promised her a trip to the Zetor Restaurant. I went there last year - who can resist a restaurant with tractors? Although I'm not sure I like them any more - I'm an ex-tractor fan. Boom-boom!

you like living dangerous Peter, anit ya?

Finland is full of people who're spear throwers, their best thrower is famous
for throwing at other atletics on official games

so beware, and take a steal shield with ya

have a good time anyway

I agree with retroussé nose. Those record shops are really good ones. My personal favourites are perhaps Keltainen jäänsärkijä and Tunnelin levy which wasn't on retroussé nose's list. Tunnelin levy is quite a small shop and the staff might not be that friendly but I've found many wonderful cd's there:) http://www.tunnelinlevy.com/ That's their website but it isn't a very good one (it's hidious, to be honest). But at least you can find their address there...

Enjoy your stay in Helsinki!:)
