Has anyone here listened to this great singer-songwriter? I only recently decided to check her out, mostly because I read some comments from Morrissey about her, such as "She wrote about drugs - "My mother and father said whiskey is a curse, but the fate of their baby is hundred times worse" at the time when The Beatles were singing "She loves you - yeah, yeah. yeah" ". I downloaded a best of compilation and albums "It's My Way" and "Illuminations" (which was quite ahead its time in late 60s when it was released, she used synthtizers, not something to expect from a guitar-playing folk singer-songwriter) and I think she is really great. She has an amazingly beautiful voice (I much prefer it to Joni Mitchell's) and tackles a lot of tough subjects from war or the plight of her people - Native Americans, to drugs, incest - she even has a really beautiful and otherworldly song about a vampire!
I also found it quite interesting, given Morrissey's appreciation of her, that she has songs with titles such as "Suffer the Little Children", "Better To Find Out For Yourself" and "You're Gonna Need Someone On Your Bond".
