I'm planning to have an annual poll of best Smiths/Morrissey cover version which has been performed/released during 2007.

So far the following are eligible for the nomination:

The Headmaster Ritual - Radiohead

Still Ill - Arcade Fire

Please Please Please Let Me Get What I Want - The Decemberists

The Boy With The Thorn In His Side - Scott Matthews

There Is A Light That Never Goes Out - Noel Gallagher

Stop Me If You Think You've Heard This One Before - Mark Ronson

Are there some more eligible for the nomination?
I'm only interested in the cover versions performed/released in 2007.
For example, The Killers version of Why Don't You Find Out For Yourself isn't eligible.

Thank you very much for your help. :)

Nouvelle Vague did a bossa nova version of Sweet And Tender Hooligan.
I saw them live in March.
It was nice.
I posted that on the main page but it hasn't been published.

I'm afraid Nouvelle Vague's album was released in 2006, therefore David didn't think it's newsworthy. :o

There was also an Italian band who covered There Is Light, it's called UCS, I posted a thread in other music, nobody replied. The musis was okay. Does that count?

Oh well, I made my attemps.
Good night

my friend is covering a smiths song for my birthday at a show he is playing.
i'm hoping to record it and then get his permission to show all of you lovely people. if it is good enough, this might count?

i liked Finn doing There is a Light with Marr much more than Noel...

I dunno about that Ronson dude, this guy should win over him...
(this guy is super cute by the way...):)

but I think Radiohead is the best of all of them, I mean - they all have guts galore to publicly do a Smiths cover... esp when Morrissey and Marr are still around and kicking... takes guts so hats off to them anyways.

Go for it. Would probably beat the "contenders" so far
