Spring-heeled Jim ,no doubt
There is no second song in the history of recorded music, as good as that ONLY , "I Started Something"
Let Dirk Explain...
I started Something was so good, as it blended so easily with the first song, yet was so different. The mind almost got tricked into thinking they were one..
Spring-Heeled, doesn't share this trait. It's a different animal to the one it followed and that's what makes it so good
The first song Now My Heart Is Full was one of M's best solo songs in a LONG while or, at least, that's what it seemed.
Now My Heart is beautiful and epic, almost Walker Bros, When one played it, you were close to tears hearing M. rise to the challenge, I personally wasn't that impressed with Your Arse . But Now My Heart was magical, it had that classic Smiths edge, that had been lacking, in a word "Quality" .
Now My Heart was a beautiful celebratory song -its Last Night I Dreamt's zen with love Sister. But everything must end so the listener is slowly returned to "the reasl world" as the song fades out,
THEN M crunches his gears as he switches them, skiding his car into a London side street and into a Jake Arnott novel. London's criminal heartbeat provides a throbbing bass line, wide boys conversations, beam in and out of earshot ....When the leader of our pack delivers "
Spring-heeled Jim winks an eye He'll "do", he'll never be "done to" " you KNOW M is in rude form, honey pie and he ain't stopping and waiting to explain ..His words start a physical reaction.
Whereas the first song, pinned you to the bed and washed over you, this one picks you up and throws you around the room, like a heavy in a barroom fight. One is giddy with excitement.
Then comes the "La la la la la le la ", "la la's" have never packed so much nostalgia for a moment one has never lived but who cares, the emotion it connects to is real and it's true and we are gonna sing aloud anyway, up goes the volume.. "La la la lale la...la la la la le la"
The song leaves you exhausted with a rare joy
