For your love nature has haemorrhaged - manic street preachers, mausoleum

planets align so rare.
theres promise in the air.
and im guiding you.
olivia newton john-magic.
always loved that lyric especially with her voice.

The entire song is really thought provoking, it raises a lot of questions about life, death, faith, fate. Supposedly based on Martin Gore's sister's suicide (but it's not).
Depeche Mode- Blasphemous Rumors
Girl of sixteen
Whole life ahead of her
Slashed her wrists
Bored with life
Didn't succeed
Thank the Lord
For small mercies

You smashed a glass into pieces
That's around the time I left
And you were coming across as clever
Then you lit the wrong end of your cigarette
You said, I'm full of diseases
Your eyes were full of regret
And then you took a picture of your salad
And put it on the Internet

The 1975, A Change of Heart

For now, I'll resist the temptation to post lyrics by Moz, but this is one of my favourite lyrics (& song) by The The.
Matt Johnson has such a fantastic voice, but these lyrics, based around nostalgia, are sublime.

I lift my face
To feel the rain
Everything's changed
Though it seems the same
The sarcasm
The bitter remarks
That pierce the chest
And wound the heart
The shallow hugs
The muted rage
The weeping skies
The shadowless days
I love and I hate this place
I ran away but I couldn't escape

Written by the late Terry Hall (God bless him), the lyrics to Friday Night, Saturday Morning are representative of (my) past reality of going out into town on a Friday night, but are also totally hilarious. Here's the last verse reflecting the usual/inevitable outcome at the end of the night:

But two o'clock has come again
It's time to leave this paradise
Hope the chip shop isn't closed
Cos' their pies are really nice
I'll eat it in the taxi queue
Stand in someone else's spew
Wish I had lipstick on my shirt
Instead of piss stains on my shoes

Oh God I just hate shit like this

This is why events unnerve me,
They find it all, a different story,
Notice whom for wheels are turning,
Turn again and turn towards this time,
All she ask's the strength to hold me,
Then again the same old story,
Word will travel, oh so quickly,
Travel first and lean towards this time.
Oh, I'll break them down, no mercy shown,
Heaven knows, it's got to be this time,
Watching her, these things she said,
The times she cried,
Too frail to wake this time.
Oh, I'll break them down, no mercy shown,
Heaven knows, it's got to be this time,
Avenues all lined with trees,
Picture me and then you start watching,
Watching forever, forever,
Watching love grow, forever,
Letting me know, forever.

the cure, plainsong:

"I think it's dark and it looks like rain, " you said
"And the wind is blowing
Like it's the end of the world, " you said
"And it's so cold, it's like the cold if you were dead"
Then you smiled for a second
"I think I'm old and I'm feeling pain, " you said
"And it's all running out
Like it's the end of the world, " you said
"And it's so cold, it's like the cold if you were dead"
Then you smiled for a second
Sometimes you make me feel
Like I'm living at the edge of the world
Like I'm living at the edge of the world
"It's just the way I smile, " you said

Tom Waits, Who Are You:

How do your pistol and your Bible and your sleeping pills go?
Are you still jumping out of windows in expensive clothes?

When routine bites hard and ambitions are low
And resentment rides high but emotions won't grow
And we're changing our ways, taking different roads
Then love, love will tear us apart again
Why is the bedroom so cold? You've turned away on your side
Is my timing that flawed? Our respect runs so dry
Yet there's still this appeal that we've kept through our lives
But love, love will tear us apart again
Do you cry out in your sleep, all my failings exposed?
There's a taste in my mouth as desperation takes hold
Just that something so good, just can't function no more
But love, love will tear us apart again

leonard cohen, famous blue raincoat:

I hear that you're building your little house deep in the desert
You're living for nothing now, I hope you're keeping some kind of record

John Cale and Lou Reed, Style it takes:

Let's do a movie here next week
We don't have sound but you're so great
You don't have to speak

nick cave, ghosteen:

There goes the moonlit man
Got a suitcase in his hand
He's moving on down the road
Things tend to fall apart starting with his heart
He kisses you lightly and he leaves
Leaves your sleeping body
Curled and dreaming around your smile, your smile

The three bears watch the TV
They age a lifetime, oh lord
Mama bear holds the remote, papa bear he just floats
And baby bear, he has gone to the moon in a boat, on a boat

I'm speaking about love now
And how the lights of love go down
You're in the back room washing his clothes
Love's like that, you know, it's like a tidal flow
And the past with its fierce undertow won't ever let us go
Won't ever let you go

If I could move the night I would
And I would turn the world around if I could
There's nothing wrong with loving something you can't hold in your hand
You're sitting on the edge of the bed, smoking and shaking your head
Well there's nothing wrong with loving things that cannot even stand

Well there goes your moony man
With his suitcase in his hand
Every road is lined with animals
That rise from their blood and walk
Well the moon won't get a wink of sleep
If I stay all night and talk, if I stay all night and talk

nick cave, galleon ship:

For you know I see you everywhere
A servant girl, an empress

david bowie, five years:

it was cold and it rained so i felt like an actor

david bowie, young americans:

well, well, well, would you carry a razor
in case, just in case of depression?

Libraries gave us power
Then work came and made us free
What price now
For a shallow piece of dignity

manic street preachers, faster:

Sleep cannot hide thoughts splitting through my mind,
Shadows aren't clean, false mirrors too many people awake,
If you stand up like a nail then you will be knocked down,
I've been too honest with myself I should have lied like everybody else.

manic street preachers, motorcycle emptiness:

survival's natural as sorrow

manic street preachers, 4st 7lbs:

self worth scatters, self esteem's a bore
i long since moved to a higher plateau
