Bernard Sumner (New Order) on Morrissey

https://www.irishtimes.com/culture/...e-hated-work-and-normality-1.3952803?mode=amp

Excerpt:
Did Johnny broach the subject of his former bandmate, Morrissey, and his increasingly questionable endorsements of a far-right fringe party called For Britain?

“I think we questioned his dubious politics,” Sumner answers. “He has become a bit toxic, hasn’t he? The world has gone a bit like that at the moment. We were only discussing this at dinner last night. It’s gone a bit pear-shaped. These are very strange times and a lot of things don’t seem to make sense. We’ve got Brexit in the UK. I’m not a fan. Obviously you’ve got Mr Trump. I find it difficult to call him President Trump. Let’s call him Resident Trump.”

I was in ways involved in the New Order circle and heard lots of stories of bickering. Stephen Morris and his wife seemed the honorable of the band. In fairness due to no experience they were screwed financially and I can understand them wanting to recoup lost revenues. However in that process they lost integrity of what Factory and the band stood for. All the original punks live abroad living of wealth. This is where Morrissey stands out as he is vocal on society and music. Which to me is punk and we must understand his words. We don't have to agree on every word but let's research and debate intellectually.

One thing that resenates with me is Politically Correctness is incorrect.

They were skint for years , as they pumped money into that poxy night club, don’t think they made a penny for years

Agree with you on the financial stuff but Stephen and Gillian still live in the area they grew up in and the rest of New Order both past and present live within 3o mins of where they grew up? Non of them have moved abroad, although Bernard does have a yacht he sails all over the place in.

Tomorrow nights gig is a sort of homecoming event as they all live not far from Jodrell Bank.

So now we have to deal with Trump trolls defending Morrissey? I can handle Moz, but if it includes these dipshits, I'm out.

True. Whoever heard of a punk having a yacht (a small rundown affair in need of paint, due to sink
any day , and where the rest of the twats congregate to sing german folks songs away from prying eyes and ears) like that round twat Bernard? A PUNK with a YACHT????

or a punk with a 'sorted' shiny fake wig like :handpointright::guardsman::handpointleft:!!! thats UNHEARD OF FOR PUNK ROCK:swear
and needless to say, they all have sock puppet group mentality. the one says GOOOOOD the other one
says YEA GOOOOOD, as if extras in a transylvana movie.:frowning:

only one who does not group think and fights the establishment is Moz, thats why they give him grief and try to boycott him despite dedicating themselves to think and talk about him 24/7. :imp:

Bernard 'yacht' likely has a German name, the brunhilda or some such name.:rage:

But Morrissey lives abroad “in wealth” also.

Barney and Hooky live in same wealthy village. Morris came from a wealthy family anyway

Can't say I've ever heard that explanation for the song. It's just a song about love and anxiety about love and relationships, or at least that's my interpretation.

Where did you read that it was about Morrissey?
It says this on the Wikipedia page for the song "Getting Away With It": https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Getting_Away_with_It

"The lyrics, co-written by Neil Tennant with Bernard Sumner, are a parody of Johnny Marr's Smiths partner Morrissey, and his public stereotyping as morose and masochistic (Pet Shop Boys would further satirise this trend on their 1990 song "Miserablism")."

I have also read it in articles on the internet such as this one called "15 anti-Morrissey Songs": https://music.avclub.com/viva-hate-15-anti-morrissey-songs-1798222021

I believe that Amy is totally right about this please look back at her post. To quote Amy: "Getting Away With It" (Electronic) and "Miserablism" (Pet Shop Boys) were both digs at Morrissey and his public persona, yes - Neil Tennant has talked about this. Bernard Sumner and Johnny Marr went through an unpleasant phase of insulting Morrissey every chance they got in the early 'Electronic' days.

Nice. I'll enjoy it even more now.

the little girl,:handpointright::guardsman::handpointleft: was butt hurt because Moz swift kicked him out of the Smths into oblivion:

:lbf:

go join your round twat mate, Bernard, and make 'music' worthy of the
Sucko hall of shame.:lbf:

Moz is Trump: he says something, denies it then throws someone, anyone under a bus. He is the classic brat.

Stephen Morris comes from quite a wealthy family. Stephen Morris was born in Macclesfield, Cheshire. He attended the King's School in Macclesfield which is a private school. His parents could afford to send him to private school. I would say that his family background is more middle-class than working-class.

According to Wikipedia Stephen Morris married fellow New Order member Gillian Gilbert in 1994 and the couple live in the beautiful village of Rainow in Cheshire. It is true that this isn't far from where he grew up in Macclesfield. Macclesfield is a nice place it is a market town in Cheshire and it is a relatively middle-class area.

According to Wikipedia Stephen Morris is a fan of science fiction, particularly the TV series Doctor Who. He has a full-sized Dalek replica in his rehearsal room, which Bernard Sumner has called "the sixth member" of New Order. He also owns several military vehicles. For more info: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stephen_Morris_(musician)

Gillian Gilbert was actually born in Manchester but her family moved to the nearby Cheshire market town Macclesfield when she was young. For more info: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gillian_Gilbert

Peter Hook was born in Broughton, Salford, but because of his stepfather's work, he spent part of his childhood in Jamaica before returning to Salford. Peter Hook's roots are in Salford but they are also in the Caribbean in Jamaica! For more info: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Peter_Hook

I believe that Peter Hook still lives for half of the year in Alderley Edge in Cheshire and lives in Majorca the other half the year in the exclusive town of Port Andratx which is part of Spain. Peter Hook's third wife Rebecca was approached to join the cast of the "Real Housewives of Cheshire". This info is taken from an article about Peter Hook in "Cheshire Life" magazine: https://www.cheshirelife.co.uk/peop...ivision-founder-on-life-in-cheshire-1-4619564

Whilst Peter Hook doesn't live permanently abroad it is likely that he does still spend half the year living abroad in Majorca in the Balearic Islands, which are part of Spain. Unless he has sold his property in Spain.

From what people are saying it sounds like Bernard Sumner who was originally from the Salford area might also live in the village Alderley Edge, Cheshire close to his former bandmate Peter Hook. Alderley Edge is quite an exclusive village known for its affluence and expensive houses, falling inside of Cheshire's Golden Triangle. A number of wealthy professional footballers have chosen to live there in recent times: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alderley_Edge

You say that Bernard Sumner is into luxury yachts which he sails all over the place in.

The Jodrell Bank Observatory is in Cheshire. The Jodrell Bank Observatory (originally the Jodrell Bank Experimental Station and from 1966 to 1999, the Nuffield Radio Astronomy Laboratories) hosts a number of radio telescopes, and is part of the Jodrell Bank Centre for Astrophysics at the University of Manchester. The observatory was established in 1945 by Bernard Lovell, a radio astronomer at the University of Manchester to investigate cosmic rays after his work on radar during the Second World War. It has since played an important role in the research of meteors, quasars, pulsars, masers and gravitational lenses, and was heavily involved with the tracking of space probes at the start of the Space Age. The managing director of the observatory is Professor Simon Garrington. It is actually an interesting place to visit if you are interested in astronomy! The Jodrell Bank Visitor Centre and an arboretum, are in the civil parish of Lower Withington and the Lovell Telescope and the observatory are in Goostrey civil parish, near Goostrey and Holmes Chapel, Cheshire. Goostrey station is a short distance away. On 7th July 2019, the observatory became a UNESCO World Heritage Site. For more info: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jodrell_Bank_Observatory

What, no mention of Andy Rourke? That's a first.

I think his yacht is called "sauerkraut". If skinny had one it would be called " sour snout" on account of his bitterness towards Mozzer n all.
