There are some very odd choices in the current top ten for this. Apart from international songs which I've never heard of and therefore can't comment on, there is a Mariah Carey song, a Cher song, and 'We Don't Talk Anymore' by Cliff Richard. (Best song ever? It's not even good by Cliff's very low standards!)

So let's throw some Smiths in the mix. The Beatles have a footnote by having 54 different songs nominated. So we can go for that accolade, or club together and vote for one song. I nominate the recently resurrected There Is A Light...

But hurry!

There's been a widely-reported joke e-mail campaign to get the Wolfe Tones version of "A Nation Once Again" (a rather nationalistic Irish song) to #1 (with people asked to specify "800 years, that's why" for the "reason".)
