Article: Universal deny blocking Morrissey Paris tribute release, call Morrissey's accusations "hurt

Harsh Truth

Ever Felt Had?
Here is a pattern I've noticed over the past few years:

1. Morrissey releases a "Statement from Morrissey" on TTY that on first (second, third, fourth) read seem outlandish, impossible, ridiculous, one-sided, malicious, juvenile, and/or completely f***ed up.

2. Within a few days someone comes back and refutes the allegation with a fairly well-founded argument.

3. There is rarely, if ever, a counter-response from Morrissey.

4. Hence, Morrissey ends up looking like a teenage idiot.

It's really sad, to be honest. It's almost as if he doesn't realize the internet is a two-way street.

Still I cling.......

And if I seem a little strange
Well, that's because I am

aah, the plot thickens! Into what ? I'd rather not ask.

There is only one song that can describe the current state of affairs:

Firestarter
The Prodigy

I'm the trouble starter, punkin' instigator.
I'm the fear addicted, danger illustrated.
I'm a firestarter, twisted firestarter.
You're a firestarter, twisted firestarter.
I'm a firestarter, twisted firestarter.
I'm the bitch you hated, filth infatuated.
Yeah! I'm the pain you tasted, fell intoxicated.

I'm a firestarter, twisted firestarter.
You're the firestarter, twisted firestarter.
I'm the self inflicted, mind detonator.
Yeah! I'm the one infected, twisted animator.
I'm a firestarter, twisted firestarter.
You're the firestarter, twisted firestarter.
I'm a firestarter, twisted firestarter starter

There will be the usual people who see everything in the world as Morrissey's fault, then there will be those who refuse to believe that Morrissey can do any wrong, when really, the truth probably lies in between.

I can see it being a situation of miscommunication, one side misunderstands what the other says/wants. Morrissey, unfortunately, has the same black and white view of the world as so many people here have, ironically the people who hate him the most here are quite a lot like him. So Morrissey most likely jumped the gun announcing things are being the way they are. He comes off looking like a petulant child not understanding the world works differently to how he believes it should. Yet at the same time, someone in his camp may well have had word back that they will not release the song. Hell, maybe Morrissey is actually spot on here...just as likely as it is that he goes off the deep end with these comments, it isn't beyond the realm of comprehension that a large corporation will deny, deny, deny in the public face of being called out on something that doesn't reflect favourably on them.

Either way, I'm sure it's murky, but I'm sure that won't stop the people here from being 100% against or for Morrissey. Such rational people.

They say they were not contacted directly by him. Then they say they contacted a representative after becoming aware of the posts. This is kind of strange. Why don't they say "We were never approached about this," or "the first we heard of it was when he posted on his website?" The "directly" part kind of stinks, but if anyone has contacted them there must be some evidence, so I don't know if they would deny it. It's hard to imagine either side just lying about it. I'm thinking it's going to turn out that Morrissey had someone make the call for him and they couldn't get through or the message was lost with all they were dealing with. Now they are offering to do it, sort of, but Morrissey would have to give the money away to a charity they approve, and the Animal Liberation Front probably wouldn't do, plus he would have to sort of acknowledge that there was some "mixup" and he's posted that meme so that would make him look like child who threw a tantrum and then promised to be good.

The other alternative is that there is no record of the call, and the post with the meme has made this executive angry so he's acting like, "f*** me? No, f*** you." And I can see any of these scenarios as equally plausible. If someone did that to me, I might resort to dirty tricks, and he's dealt with Morrissey in the past. I can imagine he might have a grudge from before. We know how Morrissey winds up at odds with his record labels.

Have you ever thought of writing children's bedtime stories ? If not you should.

Re: Universal deny blocking Morrissey Paris tribute release, call Morrissey's accusations "hurtful and wrong"

From TTY:

Universal Music (London) have denied refusing to re-issue Morrissey's I'm Throwing My Arms Around Paris in support of the victims of the recent Paris atrocities.
Morrissey is in possession of a letter from John Reid at Russells (London) in which it is clearly stated that David Joseph of Universal Music (London) has no interest in re-issuing I'm Throwing My Arms Around Paris, but has instead planned his own tribute to the Paris victims for December which will only involve current Universal bands.
Universal Music has claimed to be "hurt" by the suggestion that such a letter exists.
The letter can be freely made available to anyone who wishes to read it.

No Mozzer told this geezer down at the local Cock and Bull to pass on the message to this bloke that works on security at Universal called Duplicity McGuffin and he told his mate Ginger Bollox who wrote it on a paper aeroplane that he threw into the President of Universal letterbox last Tuesday at about 3am. So it's all legit like. Yeah it's all Universal's fault. Moz is innocent. He recorded it all on 16mm but the film accidently got stolen by some gang members.

Bingo!

You're actually wrong. You seem to have come to the same general conclusion as everyone else, that both stories are somewhat plausible and that miscommunication by one or both sides might play a large part in it. The ball is in Morrissey's court. He may be forging the documents he will present as proof right this moment. Stay tuned!

Well, there's a letter at Russells you can read if you want to.

Besides, "We have not received – let alone refused – any request from Morrissey himself related to ‘I’m Throwing My Arms Around Paris’" seems a disingenuous way of wording things. "From Morrissey himself" - but it's not as though Morrissey would *personally* call Universal, is it? Clearly Universal rebuffed Morrissey's representative (as the letter lodged with Russells would seem to bear witness) and Universal are trying to fib their way out with a carefully worded statement.

But of course this is So_low, so the default position is to disbelieve Morrissey, hence So_Lowists end up looking like teenage idiots. How different things would be if Morrissey were issuing his statements to So_Low instead of TTY...

So, Morrissey apparently has proof Universal denied his request to reissue Paris. The plot thickens...

Still no acknowledgement of their current offer to re-release it, though. Whether they've made it simply to save face is irrelevant; it's his chance to show he doesn't care more about being right than doing what he originally claimed he wanted to do in the first place.

Yeah, who knows? right? Maybe Universal did refuse M at first. And now to get their 'side' of the story in are making this up so they(Universal)won't look bad. Or maybe M never approached Universal and just made up the story to get back at Universal for some crap they (that we don't know about)did to him in the past (?). Possible. ...We can ALL be children at times.

Also, Universal probably only now offered to do the ITMAAP release simply because they know now he/M won't do it after the TTY post. In turn making him look bad.

Pure nonsense. If Morrissey wants to re-release this song then there's nothing stopping him now. If he chooses not to, it's purely because he wishes to look bad. I'm sure it will be an instant #1 as it's so relevant. *SMFH*

Or a nasty email from Morrissey which prompted a Solicitor's Letter in reply. I wonder what was in his original 'request'?

And thousands adore him. Including me. Benny, you are so angry all the time, i wonder if people are even too scared to talk to you in public. Nothing has changed with Morrissey because they know what his heart is of.You can only fake it for so long, he is the real deal.
