Statement 16 February 2013

Statement:

I am terribly sorry that the next three shows have been moved back. The worst is for the best. I am certainly on the road to recovery, but caution and prevention demand further IV blood work lest I keel over and die before your very eyes. I apologize to an almost annoying degree for any trouble I've caused to anyone by way of travel plans and dog-sitters and ticket-outlay and re-molded hairstyles. I should be as fit as a ferret for San Diego. Please don't be too appalled if you see me out and about this week in the Hollywood area. Perversely, it's all in accordance with doctor's orders: to have myself re-integrated with the call of the greasepaint and the smell of the crowd; the flash of light and the full thrust of mosh-pit sound. Illness turns the body into a complete stranger, and I'll be testing the capabilities of my strides at the most unlikely music shows this week. The will to get on with it runs strong. Even death can be used as a springboard. For those scholars who are heatedly curious, my ulcer is now under reins, even if neither asleep nor dead, but the continued cause for concern is a slightly embarrassing absence of blood – most of which the bleeding ulcer relieved me of. Anemia sets its own terms with quite obvious biological conclusions, and I have spent these last weeks under expert medical care in Los Angeles with an almost erotic dependency on various IV drips. Sitting around reading indecent books is no substitute for continuing the tour, but my progress holds great promise and Flint shall not escape quite so lightly. We are all at the mercy of biological chance, and I once again beg for your liberal tolerance. If you bump into me this week at a heavy rock show, please understand that I'm lowering myself into the cut and thrust after weeks on ice - horizontal, with sockets empty of eyes. In the midst of the abyss, I'm saved by the news that tickets for the tour continue to sell very well, and my straightjacket twitches with excited gratitude. But the patient must be patient. Our goal, now, is San Diego, by which time my blood-work shall have finally taken its course and I shall be shot from a cannon and might even be equipped with an extra eye. We just never know, do we? Being on life's danger list, I've found, actually prevents you from thinking about how you are, and there's a bread-like warmth in giving in to whatever was meant for you and whatever wasn't. The only critical mistake might be to confuse your pre-med with creativity - which is certainly worth the confusion if it renders you not fully present in your own life. Finally, I gorge myself on thanks for the many and varied messages of support that I've received over these recent four weeks. They have yanked me out of prolonged mood dips and cured a crisis of spirits. I fully realize that the word 'cancellation' in every known dictionary is followed by my own name, but no morale drops as low as my own at the mere suggestion of re-jigging shows. I sincerely ask for your pardon and your understanding. As for those of you who claim to now be officially sick to death of me - if this is really true, then why exactly are you reading this? As a matter of fact, I am even prepared to humble myself to nothing before those who carp; you see, any hospital-stay leaves us in danger of becoming unnecessarily agreeable. Life will right itself.

Whatever happens, I love you.

We love you too, Moz.

Re: Article: Morrissey statement - TTY; Denver (2/21), Salt Lake City (2/22) and San

I just got an email saying that the show in Pharr has been rescheduled for April 13th.

Oh, and I understand the gravity of the situation. A brother of an acquaintance passed away from complications from a perforated small intestine, so that is stuff not to be trifled with!

Loved reading this missive. "and my straightjacket twitches with excited gratitude." and "I fully realize that the word 'cancellation' in every known dictionary is followed by my own name" -- brilliant! He knows the shit he's caused for fans who made complex plans to see him, but he's just blood and bone. He will not let Flint off lightly (nor SF)!

BBC 6 Music after regular news bulletin also reported TTY statement.

I love you too Morrissey.

I`ve had an endoscopy. It wasn`t a fun thing to go through.

Get well soon Mozzer!

I can vouch for that Tibby I've just had one today and I have to go back for more treatment but the nurses were fantastic.
I am ok nothing life threatning but it has made me look at my life and other people in new light, I'm starting to recognise the good things in life instead of always seeing the bad if that makes any sense.

Slightly-sore

Re: Article: Morrissey statement - TTY; Denver (2/21), Salt Lake City (2/22) and San

Morrissey's best meanderings remind me of his early correspondence: dense with run-on thoughts, charming juxtapositions and emotional turnings-on-a-dime. The meaning has to be gradually teased out (which is a great way to write lyrics, too):

"Please don't be too appalled if you see me out and about this week in the Hollywood area. Even death can be used as a springboard."

In other words, his doctors have prescribed a heavy dose of live Soundgarden to an anemic invalid who needs to work up his legendary live chops; Morrissey has to get his mojo back.

Well good luck to him; enforced bed rest, IV fluids, endoscopy, frequent blood work and sedation can be demoralizing, even to the most glamorous icon. Then there's thoughts of encroaching mortality: grey hair can be dealt with, but hospital gowns and IV fluids make you feel older than Methuselah. Very, very scary stuff as well for a singer: what happens to the throat happens to the man.

Rock on Morrissey. :guitar:

Morrissey in a hospital gown...anything akin to Vicar in a Tutu?

Hey Morrissey, worst job ever, right? KEEP DOING IT! :p

Re: Article: Morrissey statement - TTY; Denver (2/21), Salt Lake City (2/22) and San

I really hopes he feels better, but I'm expecting a 30 minute set walk-off in San Diego and he will say the sound sucked. Well, we have had 3 really great shows in San Diego since the 40 minute set walk off at the outdoor concert at the Embarcadero a few years ago. I guess it's our turn again...but I hope not.

Re: Article: Morrissey statement - TTY; Denver (2/21), Salt Lake City (2/22) and San

Maybe it's the Eskimo blood in his veins? Hope the I.V. drips sort it out. Get your strength back Moz. Best wishes etc.

Re: Article: Morrissey statement - TTY; Denver (2/21), Salt Lake City (2/22) and San

Moz. Thanks for the statement. But being from the SF bay area, I have to say you pretty much couldn't give a piss about us and it shows.. We know now. I went to see you in Berkley at the Greek in 1990 and it's one of my best memories. I saw you when you were hurting in Petaluma at the Phoenix in 1997 when only 200 people showed up and when they booed you me and my crew stomped those mother f***ers... I love you Mozzer. But seriously. You've flaked on me 5 times in the last 4 years. Getting to be pretty old. Especially when I have to put my hard earned cash up for it. So, good luck man. I had the front box at Davies Hall... How sick is that? Now... Nothing.... Thanks for nothing again Moz. Predictability is now YOUR middle name Steven. Truly disappointed. Erik Sjoen. San Francisco Ca.

Hey Sean Patrick- just came across a treatment which has healed life-threatening ulcers- Master Cleanse by Stanley Burroughs- you may wish to research it- get well soon- and reschedule Chicago ASAP, huh?

Re: Article: Morrissey statement - TTY; Denver (2/21), Salt Lake City (2/22) and San

Well.. its San Francisco.. you didnt actually expect him to show up did you? sigh... 6 times is the charm..................maybe.

Re: Article: Morrissey statement - TTY; Denver (2/21), Salt Lake City (2/22) and San

It is not of question of vegetarianism There is little to argue or trying to found some excuses. NO EXCUSE FOR ANIMAL ABUSE! Morissey is absolutely right. He is convinced not to eat animals for their respect and because they deserve to live in peace like us and they are not in meant to be tortured, then thank you Mister Morissey for that. Why would he react differently? many people do not expose their creed because they do not have the courage to speak loudly. Some aspect of our society cannot be maintained we have to change..be smartest and do not hide yourself behind your ignorance. It is possible to live even better being vegetarian.

Fifou's post for me, poses a question. Is it the cruelty of the meat industry thats the problem? what if animals were reared in a dignified humane way and slaughtered likewise, would that make a difference? (I'm sure it wouldn't to Moz but how about the rest of you?).

If he had good taste in music, he'd be going to the Nick Cave show tomorrow

Anyone willing to spend $140 to see Nick Cave deserves the right to bump into Morrissey and have him sign their vaginas or whatever. Have fun, assholes. Don't leave your drink unattended.

San Francisco concert @ Davies Symphony Hall just cancelled!! My ticket purchase was refunded according to the recorded message I just received from Ticketmaster. :(

Re: Article: Morrissey statement - TTY; Denver (2/21), Salt Lake City (2/22) and San

So the people who bought tickets for this show are screwed.. meanwhile Moz will play 10 days later in a venue 1/10th the size... standing ONLY... to people who bought tickets 4 months after this one... meanwhile APE concerts as usual does NOTHING absolutely nothing to reschedule this show.. much like they have failed to do the last 4 times he has cancelled.. Im sick to the gills with you Morrissey.. Last time it was what.. an eye injury but we saw you all cavorting about downtown having fun.. no one with an eye patch in sight... and the time before.. wasnt that when you had the tour ending party a day early and everyone was too smashed to play the next day.. so you feigned illness again..... frankly I hope you choke and die on your own blood in your sleep. Dirty old queen.
