"And, yet! I am unable to watch the Olympics due to the blustering jingoism that drenches the event. Has England ever been quite so foul with patriotism? The "dazzling royals" have, quite naturally, hi-jacked the Olympics for their own empirical needs, and no oppositional voice is allowed in the free press. It is lethal to witness"-Morrissey
So he bad mouths the Olympics but one of The Smith's songs gets used at the closing ceremony? Did he get paid for that, any type of royalities paid out or did he allow it to be used for free? Why is patriotism foul? I don't think the royal family has hi-jacked the events--i.e. taken it over, what little I've caught of the events only mentioned them in passing, the main focus was on the athletes, not the royals. UK Daily News had a few articles (no i didn't count them) and it was nice to see some of the royal family enjoying themselves at the events like everyone else. Why shouldn't they enjoy themselves? Sorry if I seem dense, but I just don't get it, I saw no "empirical needs" being met by them watching the games, and I saw no "oppositional voice" being shut out of any free press. I'm just asking for some clarification that's all. can anyone lend assistance? Thanks
