yup, looks like the whole shebang was planned to honour Marr and Morrissey ending with a final impossible climax of young British atheletes investing residual hope in this fc-uk'd up country by lighting the cauldron to TIALTNGO. It was either 'stop Joyce' licensing, Big Mac fast food or Royal phobia that meant it didn't happen. Who knows? I now longer care.

Morrissey was 'disingenuous' to say the least when he said he wasn't invited because of his 'insincere' smile. There's a story, but unless Danny Boyle speaks, it remains impenetrable. Danny Boyle won't say a word cuz he's besotted with The Smiths and maybe with Morrissey. Oh well! The way it's turned out, with Moz's car-crash statment, probably best. Here's Boyle enthusing on his plans last year:

I was never a 'cult member', always a member of the Audience. But I had a real 'sunk investment' in The Smiths and Morrissey as a solo artist. I've realised from playing their music almost consantly as a soundtrack to the Olympics just how good it all was 'back in the day' and just how sad it seems now. Maybe he's got another burst to come. I hope so. But I think he will end up trolling on down the ever more tragic 'PAVP/GOOTS' parody pantomime. I wont' be there to watch any more car-crashes, and I imagine #MorrisseyFAIL! is trending but it's over for me, barring a miracle.

Will I be the first person ever to be banned from both So-Low and from Morrissey shows? :tears: of :lbf: That's called The Striesand Effect, but I don't want or need it.

Enjoy what's left, folks. And thanks for all the LOLs! this site has provided over the years. Shame it will crash and burn, like Moz: but 'That's Life'!:(

      regards

I do have to say that I was surprised that the Smiths did not feature at all in the 'British music through the decades' part of the opening ceremony. The 80s segment was very dull. 'Panic' would have sounded great. I wonder did El Moz refuse to let any Smiths be used?

Could Morrissey realistically win anything by suing? Intellectual property or plagiarism? If so, I think he should.

You obviously care enough to post.

      "There's a story"...? No - there's ill-informed supposition.

Let's hope you really are gone for good, because your tedious, narcissistic ramblings lacked both insight and wit.

Indeed really funny, some of the songs need no changes to the titles.

Rumor has it that the doves that appeared during the Arctic Monkeys performance were supposed to be 1000 Morrisseys on bikes with baskets, like in the "Stop Me" video, but Moz put "a stop" to that as well.

      I amuse myself.

"And, yet! I am unable to watch the Olympics due to the blustering jingoism that drenches the event. Has England ever been quite so foul with patriotism? The "dazzling royals" have, quite naturally, hi-jacked the Olympics for their own empirical needs, and no oppositional voice is allowed in the free press. It is lethal to witness"-Morrissey

So he bad mouths the Olympics but one of The Smith's songs gets used at the closing ceremony? Did he get paid for that, any type of royalities paid out or did he allow it to be used for free? Why is patriotism foul? I don't think the royal family has hi-jacked the events--i.e. taken it over, what little I've caught of the events only mentioned them in passing, the main focus was on the athletes, not the royals. UK Daily News had a few articles (no i didn't count them) and it was nice to see some of the royal family enjoying themselves at the events like everyone else. Why shouldn't they enjoy themselves? Sorry if I seem dense, but I just don't get it, I saw no "empirical needs" being met by them watching the games, and I saw no "oppositional voice" being shut out of any free press. I'm just asking for some clarification that's all. can anyone lend assistance? Thanks

You understand the situation perfectly. The Olympics are great. The Royal Family is great. This is a time when all of the UK, and indeed the world, should unite in a single lock-step march toward a glorious unified future. We are One.

I do declare that Morrissey's denunciation of patriotism is 20 years too late and 20 miles wide of the target.

As far as I can see, the Olympics are a near-perfect antidote to all the dreary, artless vomit that surrounded the Jubilee. What, for a republican, could be more satisfying that seeing the Queen, in her 800th year or whatever it is, upstaged by a painter and decorator's daughter from Sheffield? And, given that it would hardly have been possible to actually exclude her from the opening ceremony, isn't it high time that the organisers of some national event had the courage to concede that our head of state and her dreadful national anthem are absolutely fucking boring as hell unless you add James Bond and a choir of deaf kids?
