Any Johnny Cash fans out there?

A few nights ago I caught the film, "Walk The Line" with Joaquin Phoenix and Reese Witherspoon- and it was great! They did all the vocals and I was surprised at how great their singing was. So now I'm a Johnny Cash fan. I wonder if Moz was ever into country (probably not.) If there are any country fans out there, could your recommend any other country artist? Thanks.

I love Johnny Cash, but I didn't like that movie.

Walk The Line is indeed a great film and very well acted. If you're looking for any similar artists to Cash....I wouldn't even bother! Nothing like the man himself. If you haven't done so already you must check out the Folsom Prison CD, widely regarded as one of the greatest albums of all time. That and the Sun Records recordings which you can pick up for next to nothing, oh and also The Fabulous Johnny Cash (his 1st record for Columbia)

Enjoy!

The late "American" recordings are uniformly superb.

I grew up with old-school country, so I've been a Johnny Cash fan for 30 years or so. If you like him, you should check out the following:

Willie Nelson
Merle Haggard
George Jones
Waylon Jennings
Shooter Jennings
Kris Kristofferson
Marty Robbins
Glen Campbell
Wanda Jackson
Patsy Cline
Dolly Parton
Loretta Lynn
Emmylou Harris
Tammy Wynette
Donna Fargo
Conway Twitty
Jerry Reed
Hank Williams
Hank Williams, Jr.
Hank III
Buck Owens
Carl Perkins
Charlie Daniels
Charlie Rich
Charley Pride
Ray Price
Tom T. Hall
Alabama
The Statler Brothers
Roy Acuff
Roger Miller
Bob Wills and His Texas Playboys
Old Crow Medicine Show
Slim Whitman
Mel Tillis
Mickey Gilley
Ronnie Milsap
Eddie Rabbit
John Denver
Kenny Rogers

Johnny Cash also recorded with Bob Dylan. They collaborated during the time Bob was recording Nashville Skyline. Elvis Costello's new album Secret, Profane and Sugarcane has a definite country feel to it.

Oh i've been into Johnny Cash for about 2 years now, His songs are awesome. Got dozens of books of him and that. For some reason i find i enjoy an artists songs more and understand them once ive read what was going on around the time it was written/performed, and the background to it all, personal life etc. It gives me a better understanding.

His american records are fantastic. There just simple, honest songs.

I'm not a fan of country music or biopics, but i do love a bit of Johnny Cash. The man had a great singing voice which i'm sure would have graced any genre of music.
I particularly like the mature stuff he did later in his career like "Hurt."

Fury, I went to B&N today and no luck on Folsom Prison :( But I did buy his greatest hits! I'm so surprised; years ago I would have laughed or scoffed at the *idea* of liking country music. But the Man In Black is special. :D

LOL bysshe!! I love Patsy Cline. I also like K.D. Lang. Wow, I haven't heard the name Eddie Rabbit in centuries! Did he write/perform "I Love A Rainy Night"? :guitar:

I tried to find a bio of him today but no dice :( I feel the same; I like to read about the artists because it gives me more insight. :guitar:

I have a fair share of Johnny Cash stuff. Looking for anything in particular?

Whoa, thank you bysshe!!! Glad I was able to inspire you to listen to some country! :guitar:

Buzzetta, actually, "Live At Folsom Prison"! :)

Just saw this, on my way to work in a minute or so. I have the double length version that has both shows remastered from the original audio, swear words and all.

I will upload them tonight when I get home.
