Glasvegas released their album in 2008. I know that for a fact cos it was my album of the year last year!

That is okay, I am not sure you would like them.you like the more electronically sounding things, maybe. But, those would be my 10 favorites of the year.

electronically, yeah, thats me :o but the more and more karaoke I do the more I learn about other things
anyways, since everybody is now doing 10 so will I, I've even ranked them :thumb:

1. It's Blitz! by Yeah Yeah Yeahs

2. Yes by Pet Shop Boys
3. This Is It by Utada
(also known as Cubik U, Utada Hikaru or vice versa, but simply "Hikki" to people like me, her devoted fans
her voice is the most beautiful currently in existence on the planet Earth )
4. Battle For The Sun by Placebo
5. Junior by Röyksopp
6. Triangle by Perfume
7. Kingdom of Welcome Addiction by IAMX
8. Far by Regina Spektor
9. Rocket Science by Apoptygma Berzerk
10. My Love for You Is a Cheap Pop Song by Kumisolo

ps: I am interested in knowing what percentage of the artists on my top 10 list people here even know
my guess is that little of it is known to Mozzers, except maybe some ones also in jpop or electro pop of some kind :blushing:

I know all of them except Utada & Kumisolo.

no fan of jpop, but there are a few jrock band I like
f.e. Moi Dix Mois, Mucc, Dir En Grey & Plastic Tree

wow, thats interesting, most Western? fans of any music from Japan would have heard of:
Utada_Hikaru_040009.jpg

she is one of the most popular singers of all time to sing in Japanese
her style more heavily R&B influenced than anything else though
as for breaking things down into specifics like "jrock" :guitar:
that is where the roots of my love for music from Japan come from
bands like Boredoms, P5, Pillows & Shonen Knife(who I have seen many times :))
I wonder even about these distinctions between jpop, jrock or "jhop"
I mean, I've loved every band Kawase Tomoko has had
but cannot tell you what "genre" buri guri is or Tommy heavenly6 and I assume that most of my fave stuff of hers as
Tommy_Feb_Cover_norm.jpg

"Tommy february6" is jpop :blushing:

I really love the Boredoms, especially their Chocolate Synthizer album (which I have twice) Although, listening to the Choc. Synth album, there was a running joke where I used to work 'Who the hell would give them money to get off their tits and scream random Japanese words down the mic?'
Well, I would for starters.

Shonen Knife.. I'm still looking for a track called 'Blue Oyster Cult' if anybody could help me then I'll repay in ...Many thank you's...

Annnd... there was a Japanese pop band but I've forgotten what they're called... Oh, and Moshi Moshi is good.

"The Fame Monster" - Lady Gaga

1.Camera Obscura - My Maudlin career
2.Trashcan Sinatras - In The Music
3.Malcolm Middleton - Waxing Gibbous
4.The Leisure Society - The Sleeper
5.The Pains of being pure at heart - The Pains of being Pure at heart.

8.Crayon Fields - All The Pleasures of the World
9.Papercuts - You Can Have What You Want
10.King Creosote - Flick the V's

This is a good list - i would definitely have KC and Camera Obscura in my favourites. I will need to investigate Crayon Fields and Papercuts because I don't know them...

i will add my Top 5:
Broken Records "Until the Earth begins to part"
Grizzly Bear "Veckatimest"
Yeah Yeah Yeahs "Its Blitz"
Wild Beasts "Two Dancers"
Animal Collective "Merriweather Post Pavilion"

and the Lady Gaga album is the best pop album for years but everyone knows that already right?!:)

Both top notch.

This is one of my favourite songs this year..wrong thread perhaps.
'Atlas Sound' with Stereolab's Laetitia Sadier on vocal.
Blissed out beauty.

okay...top 6 or 7...or

the xx
not quite the second coming it's made out to be, and the album tracks are better than the singles...but a pretty unique (by way of 17 Seconds) record, and when they hit their groove they really nail it

Cold Cave-Cremations & Love Comes Close
two very good and very different albums by Cold Cave. Cremations is fairly harsh industrial while LCC is dancey synthpop gold.

Former Ghosts-Fleurs
creepy/haunting minimalist electro

The Antlers-Hospice
a grower.

Micachu-Jewellery
walks the fine line between annoying and awesome (stays mostly on the awesome side)

Late Of The Pier-Fantasy Black Channel
really fun way to kill time before the new Klaxons album

The Horrors-Primary Colours
the album is maybe a little over produced, but great nonetheless

EPS
Small Black
dreamy shoegaze noise

Warpaint-Exquisite Corpse
really great music made by really annoying hipsters

Top Bottom
