Advice on mixed CD

Hello there. Was asked to make a CD by a friend who is interested in The Smiths. Just looking for some advice, based on the ones she has liked thus far, which you think are in similar vain to.

She likes Panic and Girlfriend In A Coma. Can you think of any Smiths songs which you think are pretty similar musically to those, whilst still being different in their own way? Boy With A Thorn Comes... to mind, Is It Really So Strange maybe?

Bit of an odd request I know! Any ideas?

I wouldn't look for songs that are similar musically, I would put songs that are the best in my opinion, or a combination of songs that show different sides of The Smiths.

Personally, I don't think The Boy... and Is It Really Strange are among their best songs, but it's your compilation, so you should just choose what you like best.

I agree, I dont think they are amongst their best either, but closest to the other songs she liked. But as you said, I should really pick different songs to display how versatile they were musically. Fair enough point.

You have to put Sheila Take A Bow and from Rank! His latest Flame/Rusholme Ruffians, and it will all work out. If they don't like those, there is no hope.

personally, i think she'd like:
what difference does it make
bigmouth strikes again
cemetry gates
i started something i couldnt finish
handsome devil
william it was really nothing

and stop me if you think youve hear this one before

I think that's the best way to go. Here are some random suggestions:

This Charming Man / The Boy With The Thorn In His Side / William It Was Really Nothing
Still Ill / Bigmouth Strikes Again / The Headmaster Ritual
The Queen is Dead / What She Said / Sweet and Tender Hooligan
That Joke Isn't Funny Anymore / I Know It's Over / Last Night I Dreamt That Somebody Loved Me
Frankly, Mr Shankly / Rubber Ring
Sheila, Take a Bow / Shoplifters of the World Unite
How Soon is Now?
Asleep
Please Please Please Let Me Get What I Want
A Rush and a Push and the Land is Ours
And definitely There Is A Light That Never Goes Out - you can't have a Smiths compilation without it. ;)

new fan for a mixed cd

Hi,
I'm wanting to do a CD compilation of a few tracks for my mate who hasn't really heard a lot of Morrissey's work.

Anyone got any suggestions of great tracks to get a new fan hooked in and begging for more?

Cheers

Re: Burn CD for new fan - tracklist?

Irish Blood

First Of The Gang

Let Me Kiss You

You Have Killed Me

Life Is A Pigsty

Suedehead

The More You Ignore Me

I'll get back to you with some more

Re: Burn CD for new fan - tracklist?

Southpaw

Re: Burn CD for new fan - tracklist?

America Is Not A World

Certain People I Know

I Like You

Im Not Sorry

Interesting Drug

King Leer

Lucky Lisp

Mute Witness

Sing Your Life

and for definite

National Front Disco

For a compilation of Morrissey´s work I would choose:
Southpaw
Irish Blood, English Heart
National Front Disco
TLOTFI Playboys
November Spawned A Monster
Alma Matters
Satan Rejected My Soul
The More You Ignore Me, The Closer I Get
The Lazy Sunbathers
Piccadilly Palare
Mute Witness
Boy Racer
The Operation
Seasick
Tomorrow

Those are the songs that my friends quite like although they are no Morrissey fans at all.
So this would make a good selection, I think.
Try it and tell us!

Great choice. You've just reminded me (and hopefully everyone else reading this) what a great song this is. I'm still bewildered that it's not highly rated by more people, the album that is.

My Morrissey picks:
Boxers
Jack the Ripper

Introducing...Morrissey.

1. First Of The Gang To Die
2. Everyday Is Like Sunday
3. Sister I'm A Poet
4. Tommorow
5. Let Me Kiss You
6. Seasick, Yet Still Docked
7. Now My Heart Is Full
8. Alma Matters
9. Dear God, Please Help Me
10. The Never Played Symphonies

Introducing...The Smiths

1. This Charming Man
2. Reel Around The Fountain
3. Nowhere Fast
4. Stop Me If You Think You've Heard This One Before
5. I Know It's Over
6. Please, Please, Please Let Me Get What I Want
7. William, It Was Really Nothing
8. There Is A Light That Never Goes Out
9. Rubber Ring
10. Asleep

to SRA, it seems she likes the catchy, happier pop sound. People pretty much gave you some good ideas, I didn't see (I could have missed it, sorry if someone said this one) Shakespeare's Sister on here yet, and that's a great one.

You can't have a Smiths mix without Asleep on it though. :)
I like to follow that one up with Last Night I Dreamt... on my mixes.

Well I made a mixed MOZ/Smiths CD recently for a friend, and it went like this:

A Rush and A Push and the Land
Suedehead
Whatever Happens, I love you
How soon is now
the boy with the thorn in his side
king leer
Little man what now?
I know its over
I don't owe you anything
Everyday is like sunday
He knows i'd love to see him happy
panic
the last of the famous international playboys
Cemetry Gates
I won't share you

uh wierd list. but personal faves mixed with all time faves.
