Awaiting the Arrival

I was just curious, while we are on the subject of abbreviations...I am quite aware of Morrissey's nicknames...Moz, Mozz, Mozzer, Mozzy, etc. I am also aware that Boz first went by Martin, and is now known to all by Boz. I heard a girl in line at one of the shows refer to Gary as Gaz. I was not aware of this nickname. Just wondering if I were the only one oblivious to Gary's nickname???

Please excuse my ignorance..

Would not surprise me

I think that that is entily possible.....abbreviations are the in-thing it seems. If your name is matthew your new name would be maz, lets say your name is robert.....your new name would be boz. I think you kids have the idea, go hog wild with it.....use it frequently.

Boz was known as "boz" before he joined Morrissey's band. He used to play in numerous rockabilly bands, most notably with legend Ronnie Dawson, and he was known as BOZ back then, years before becoming one of 'The Lads'

Re: England for the English

It's an English/English footballer thing. I've played soccer since childhood and have many English friends (footballers and others). They all use these shortened forms of names when you are part of their clique. So my teammate Gary was Gazzer . . . Barry was Baz . . . but the name alterations only applied to guys who were truly "one of the boys" . . . a true lad.

Thanks, but I am quite aware of Boz previously being known as Boz. I am also very knowing of his works with his other bands, such as The Polecats. I was simply using it as an example that it is also a nickname. Originally he did come into the band as Martin though.

I am a friend of Boz and he does prefer to be called Martin.
If you look at the Interlude 12"the production is credited to Martin Boorer
