Hello.

This is a longshot, but here goes:

If there is anyone reading this msgboard who fills the following criteria, please contact me immediately. I'm desperately seeking you.

1) You live in Finland, preferably the southern part (~150 km radius from the capital area).
2) You're confident enough with your guitar playing abilities to try to fill Johnny Marr's shoes.
3) You're interested in playing in a Smiths-cover band. Just for fun. No strings attached and only the amount of gigs we feel we have a real lust to play

Let me know. We have a "Craig Gannon" (rhythmgtr-player), so you wouldn't have to emulate the full spectrum of Johnny's sound on yr own. We're all accomplished musicians, so you wouldn't have to worry about joining a bunch of amateurs.

Thanks.

Tommi Rourke.

Hi Tommi, I'd say that asking for a Marr Man is indeed a very long shot... as you'd know, an incredibly dextrous, inventive, and fast player.. Good luck though.. I am always encouraging people, the kids if you like, to pick up guitars and go for it.. Too many venues with too many average bands trawling about. My band might make our debut sometime soon.. No Moz/Smiths though.. more punk/new wave influence.. But having a laugh of course.

Good luck Finland.

Oe, Tommi!

If I were you, I would try to found out if the guitarist of the Joneses is available. He's surely the man you're looking for. Just an amazing Finnish cover group!

Does anybody knows the lads names? Or anything about the Joneses at all? The name of the singer is Marko von Konow - that much I know.

Best luck anyway, and let us know about the gigs.

Actually, the band I was talking about is in fact the Joneses. I ran into the drummer (also from a brilliant finnish melancholic pop/rock band, Shadowplay) last night at my hardcore-punk band's gig. He came up to me to congatulate me on a great gig and said he had been very impressed with me playing a few Rourke-riffs before we began and told me about his involvement with the Joneses.

Then we just started talking about the Joneses and I of course wanted to know if they'd be available for gigging so I could maybe arrange a Smiths/Moz-evening and he said that there had been some arguments with the guitar player and that they didn't have a bass player.

I immediately expressed the enthusiasm to give both my legs if I could play bass with them.

The conversation ended with us agreeing to try to find a Marr-replacement. In the event that we find a suitable Johnny, he'd resurrect the Joneses with me on bass.

Cool, huh?

I'm in Helsinki next weekend
