It's rather these fanatics who does that, and honestly I think he's glad they're no longer part of his audience. Who needs fair-weather fans? It's in difficult times you see who your true friends are.
Fans aren't friends. They are present when your work resonates with them and they drift away when it doesn't.

The causes close to his heart are getting no attention -

because people don’t see his causes as important, they are either not news worthy or do not fit in with their agenda. So they must twist what he says until it does, and then forever milk it.

people are too busy denouncing him as a Nazi.

The unthinking will do just about anything to be liked and accepted these days. Very sad.

I suppose he could be in denial about that.

I picture him just throwing his hands up to the heavens, and asking himself why he even bothers to try to bring such subjects to others attention.

He’ll carry on being himself, in spite of this world as it is presently.

Yes, I remember Morrissey saying something along the lines of.. it was embarrassing for him to call them ‘fans’ and would rather call them friends, these people that bought his records, came to his shows.

down voting is such a desperate troll
move when the troll realizes that the one that they’re trolling doesn’t care what they think.

This rationale is such a desperate cope.

Folks like Nerak and Ketamine make assumptions about Morrissey that make me laugh. It probably never occurs to them that he maybe watching Atlanta versus Man Utd in his local boozer right now, with a few of his mates.

Exploiting his name isn't being a true friend.

Why would it occur to you?

Because we see him here and in the main appreciate he's just a bloke who happens to make good music and can also be a tit from time to time.

Everyone is just a person - if you know him well, spill what he's been saying.

Are people that watch Atlanta versus Man Utd in their local boozer right now called ‘tits’ ?

You're missing the point Nerak, I see him maybe 3/4 times per year but there are others who socialise with him regularly and will paint a picture that is very different to what some people on here will imagine (and not in a bad way) As I suggested earlier, do you ever imagine he may be watching the Atalanta/Man Utd game in Hale/Bowden Altrincham or LA tonight?

from a blog I frequent"

"…..in a hotel room in Manchester, having come down on the train yesterday. It’s a three night stay, the purpose of which is to catch up with a few folk for the first time in years, including Swiss Adam. There’s also a visit planned to the above building to take in what, by all accounts, is an excellent exhibition on the early years of Factory Records.

I did think about offering up a Factory band of some sorts today, but then I thought I’d go back to an old favourite. A band who haven’t been featured on the blog since ICA 150 back in December 2017. A band I no longer listen to at all, dating back to not long after that posting for very obvious reasons. And while I really miss the brilliance of their songs, it really is a point of principle. But, given that I am in their home city and the mode of transport used to get me here, and of course the very important fact that this song is an instrumental, I’ll enjoy this today:-

mp3: The Smiths – The Draize Train

A few folk I know have emptied their collection of the singles and albums by The Smiths as well as the material issued throughout the singer’s solo career. I haven’t quite been able to go that far.

(a commenter to the article)
I understand your reluctance to listen/play The Smiths because of certain……. well, you know. But I can look at the group as an entity and not just….. well, a certain…… saying……, you know. Actually I can listen to certain solo work too without it coming into focus. But only for short bursts. Then the CDs/vinyl go back on the shelf for a while.
This kind of thing's to be expected. It's quite funny too. If Steven will insist on being a racist, or if he's so cavalier in his attitude toward how people perceive him that he doesn't bother to convincingly repudiate racism, the repercussions are entirely his own fault.

Happily, lots of people who were once quite keen on his songs now think him an arsehole. The fact that it's taken till now for the penny to drop is the only disappointment.

Then paint the picture!

And yes - because that's what he says he does.

Aye, your life is nothing but disappointment.
