50 Best Morrissey songs - Spin

The top 50 Morrissey songs were all written by Johnny Marr.

Without him, he’d still be writing shitty letters to the editor and offering daft opinions on things beyond his scope.

...oh wait a minute. Never mind.
I don't agree with the first part but you did make me laugh :lbf:

A nice list, with good commentary.
Just thinking of the dozens of omissions makes you realize the vastness of his back catalogue.

Where's 'Bengali'?
Where's 'Break Up The Family'?
Where's 'King Leer'?
Where's 'Art-Hounds'?
Where's 'My love, I'd do anything for you'?
Where's 'There Speaks A True Friend'?
Where's 'Pigsty'?
Where's 'How Could Anybody'?
Where's 'Scandinavia'?
Where's 'Lifeguard'?
Where's 'Southpaw'?

Each to their own I guess but I would have Trouble Loves Me, It's Hard To Walk Tall When Your Small & I Can Have Both any day of the week before any ordinary cover version...

50 Best Morrissey Songs - SPIN
This is definitely an odd list to me but it's rather well done and not "obvious"...if that could exist in a Morrissey top 50...lol.

I personally would not include covers.

This has a few songs that would make my worst list...#46, 36,35,plus a few

And how the heck did Boy Racer get top ten status??? And although I like it, I don't get the extreme love of Suedehead on this list and with Morrissey fans in general.

But hey it's all a matter of opinion:rolleyes:

I have far too much time on my hands. I'm sure I'm forgetting something obvious, but I don't care to scan my list all that closely

  1. Suedehead
  2. Why Don’t You Find Out For Yourself
  3. Speedway
  4. Everyday is Like Sunday
  5. You Have Killed Me
  6. Late Night, Maudlin Street
  7. Now My Heart is Full
  8. First of the Gang to Die
  9. Ouija Board Ouija Board
  10. The National Front Disco
  11. Sunny
  12. The More You Ignore Me, The Closer I Get
  13. I’m Throwing My Arms Around Paris
  14. Let Me Kiss You
  15. Life is a Pigsty
  16. Jack the Ripper
  17. Boxers
  18. Interesting Drug
  19. November Spawned a Monster
  20. Certain People I Know
  21. Wide to Receive
  22. Alsatian Cousin
  23. Something is Squeezing My Skull
  24. Irish Blood, English Heart
  25. You’re the One for Me, Fatty
  26. The Boy Racer
  27. Sing Your Life
  28. Hairdresser on Fire
  29. All You Need is Me
  30. Trouble Loves Me
  31. Spring Heeled Jim
  32. Staircase at the University
  33. Billy Budd
  34. Kiss Me A Lot
  35. Home is a Question Mark
  36. You’re Gonna Need Someone On Your Side
  37. Alma Matters
  38. I’m Not Sorry
  39. The Bullfighter Dies
  40. I Don’t Mind if You Forget Me
  41. The Lazy Sunbathers
  42. How Can Anybody Possibly Know How I Feel
  43. Mute Witness
  44. We Hate It When Our Friends Become Successful
  45. A Swallow on My Neck
  46. Hold On To Your Friends
  47. Spent the Day in Bed
  48. Art-Hounds
  49. Break Up the Family
  50. When Last I Spoke to Carol
Can we replace Bullfighter with At Amber and Wide to Receive with Swallow On My Neck? I am very happy that you recognize #40. That song would absolutely kick ass live!!! Can you imagine if he closed his concerts with that one...pandemonium.

Black Cloud?

Really?

You know this was a quick assignment.

"No problem. I'll have done by morning."

"Wait, is her name spelled with on or two r's?"

Indeed. “What’s that Smiths b-side called? The one that starts “Sing me to sleep,” ah, yes “Sing Me To Sleep.” Don’t worry, I got it.

No mention of “Nobody Loves Us” negates the entire list, unless I missed it because they called it “Stuff Our Faces With Cake”:

For me Suedehead and its b-sides came as a huge relief. A sign that perhaps everything would be okay after all. Perhaps, it not only being a great single, but showing that Morrissey could still produce great music without Marr still gives it a place in the hearts of many.

Swallow On My Neck is down at #45. I desperately wish he'd play it live again. My love of Bullfighter is almost embarrassing at this point, but I do think it's a wonderful song. Stronger than At Amber, Do Your Best and Don't Worry, and some others that just missed the cut.

What, no 'Now I am a was', 'No one can hold a candle to you' or ' My Love I'd do anything for you'?
Not to criticize but to illustrate, as Thewlis has said his
catalogue is not only huge but rich.
There are a few in your list I've never heard of so the catalogue, for me atleast, continues to grow.

I left out any cover versions, so no Interlude, which I love. I haven’t lived with LIHS long enough to include anything yet.

Ah okay. Solid list. I would buy that compilation.

How does one go about downloading #40 That’s entertainment?? Can’t locate it anywhere and would love to have it~
