Well, it was the back end of last year, so cut me some slack, but I'm a big fan of this song, and the album ("Antiphon") it came from.

To my ears, a cross between Johnny Mandel, The Beach Boys, and West Coast rock. Beautiful, beautiful harmonies.

hmm, for me, I was at a party and someone there mentioned Future Islands
then I remembered seeing a thread on the band
so with this coincidence, I decided to check them out and

I really like it :) its weird, there is a dissonance between the vocals and music which I find strangely appealing
add to that the interesting lyrics
and well, I expect to be playing a lot more of it :guitar:

Who is the 2nd pic? Rob it might help to type an album title or singer so we can investigate further. O t V? I don't know...

Yes I too discovered Future Islands recently when they performed on Letterman. I was weirdly blown away, confused, hurt and bewildered...

Watch and you'll see what I mean. It's like some mafioso hit man asked 3 nerds to join his band.

To Be Kind, the latest sprawling, two-hour opus from Michael Gira and co. It's the best album I've heard all year.

i was really enamored and warmed by against me!'s new album transgender dysphoria blues especialy the song...

fuckmylife666 (title taken from a real persons facebook user name)
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5Q4XJI8B1BI

    the words:

    "The ease of your pose
    The grace of your silhouette
    The way that your shoulders
    Meet your slender neck
Where would we be without all the distance?
You know I'm already just a skeleton

I don't have the heart to match
The one pricked into your finger
All things made to be destroyed
    All moments meant to pass

Don't want to live without teeth
Don't want to die without bite
I never want to say that I regret it
I never want to say that we grew apart
I never want to say that the feeling changed

I don't have the heart to match
The one pricked into your finger
All things made to be destroyed
    All moments meant to pass

Chipped nail polish and a barbed wire dress
Is your mother proud of your eyelashes?
    Silicone chest and collagen lips
How would you even recognize me?

I don't have the heart to match
The one pricked into your finger
All things made to be destroyed
    All moments meant to pass

I don't have the heart to match
The one pricked into your finger
    No more troubled sleep
    There's a brave new world
    That's raging inside of me

I don't have the heart to match
The one pricked into your finger
This too will soon slip out of reach
This too will soon come to an end"

he of course very publicly became laura jane grace and held fast against the necessary pressure and pain it put on his marriage and his child. glad to see they stuck by her. i thought all of this very brave and articulate

one more and then ill go read some updike (perhaps on the farm)

against me! - true trans soul rebel (acoustic studio version)
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dKNam5aulKM

    the words:

"All dressed up and nowhere to go,
    Walking the streets all alone.
Another night you wish that you could forget,
Making yourself up as you go along.

Who's gonna take you home tonight?
    Who's gonna take you home?
    [x2]
Does god bless your transsexual heart, true trans soul rebel?

Yet to be born, you were already dead,
Sleep with a gun beside you in bed.
Follow it through to the obvious end:
    See your veins wide open,
    You bleed it out.

Who's gonna take you home tonight?
    Who's gonna take you home?
    [x2]
Does god bless your transsexual heart, true trans soul rebel?

    You should've been a mother,
    You should've been a wife.
You should've been gone from here years ago,
You should be living a different life.

Who's gonna take you home tonight?
    Who's gonna take you home?
    [x3]
Does god bless your transsexual heart, true trans soul rebel?
    True trans soul rebel!"
