For me and apart from the obvious I'm looking forward to,
The Trashcan Sinatras, P.J Harvey, Camera Obscura, Fireflies, The Leisure Society, Eels, Northern Portrait, Doves and Rose Elinor Dougall, they're all definites for next year.

A new release from 'Broadcast' wouldn't go amiss either.

Anymore for anymore?

Oh and REM's 'Murmur' re-issue if it hasn't surfaced already.

Depeche Mode's new one...don't know of anyone else recording.

Definitely looking forward to a bunch o things!
The Cure ... some kind of "dark album", songs from the 4:13 sessions ... "please come home" sounded good, the demo was on the chain of flowers website for a while
Grand Duchy ... the Black Francis & wife Violet Clark record, if you like BF you will likely like them (see: "Fort Wayne"), she has a great voice; BF may have another solo record coming; FB & Catholics box set supposedly coming out on SpinArt
Leonard Cohen ... at least a live document of the present tour, will be nice ... also has a new record in the works
Lloyd Cole ... b-sides comps and live records coming out, longtime coming
Arcade Fire ... might be done before end of 2009?
Skinny Puppy ... hopefully a good one
Sonic Youth ... now on Matador ... always worth the price of admission
U2 ... I haven't liked U2 in so long ... maybe they will make another great album
Robyn Hitchcock ... new Venus 3 record : ) brilliant brilliant

and as usual ... waiting for ...
The Sisters of Mercy ... you never know, or maybe just download another boot?

The Decemberists in May.

Also, The Dave Matthews Band. say what you will...

Well, I have nothing to say about Dave Matthews & Co. Nothing at all. Because blank is how I feel when I listen to them. Like saltine crackers, they are.

Decemberists, however... that means they'll tour again, too. Very worth the ticket price, they are.

Cheers all!
Looks like it could be a great year, perhaps 'The National' will be following up their brooding 'Boxers' album from last year.

A collection of indie rock's finest have contributed exclusive new songs to Dark Was the Night, a 32-track album out February 17, which will benefit the Red Hot Organization, a charity dedicated to raising funds and awareness for HIV and AIDS.

The disc features new songs from Cat Power, Spoon, Arcade Fire, My Morning Jacket, Bon Iver, Iron & Wine, the National, Andrew Bird, Beach House, Beirut, Blonde Redhead, the Books (feat. Jose Gonzalez), the Decemberists, Dirty Projectors and David Byrne, Broken Social Scene's Kevin Drew, Feist, Ben Gibbard, Grizzly Bear, Sharon Jones & the Dap-Kings, My Brightest Diamond, the New Pornographers, Conor Oberst & Gillian Welch, TV on the Radio's Dave Sitek, Yeasayer, and Yo La Tengo.

The record, announced December 1 to commemorate World AIDS Day, was produced by Aaron and Bryce Dessner of the National and will be available as a double-disc CD, triple vinyl, and digital download.

I didn't know the Decemberists were releasing anything soon, nice!

I'd like to add the Divine Comedy and Ambulance Ltd. (their last one was not near as enjoyable as their first.) There's definitely some new releases to look forward next year. More exciting than this past year.

Charlie, I'd like some new Broadcast as well! Know something we don't?

Yeah Annie began recording the album in September and it has been written so I assume then it will come on it early 09

Hello you, I've no knowledge on a Broadcast release sadly, just hopeful thinking really.
I personally think 2008 has been pretty average for new albums, i'm struggling to think of 5 new releases that i've really liked.
I tend to backtrack and discover stuff on such years as this one.
Here's hoping for 2009 is a cracker.
The Howling Bells new one is sounding good btw.
All the best. x
