Johnny Marr review.. and a picture..

Went with some enthusiasm to see a hero last night.. And I say enthusiasm not lightly as I'd lost a bit of interest in Marr after seeing him at the Scala a couple of years back where his lack of unique style (failing to be a half convincing Liam Gallagher clone) and his ponderous rock stance was faintly irritating.

Anyway, got Boomslang the other week, and it's a surprisingly good album, but last night was even better. He was really good live. He rocked and rolled, not a trace of any Smiths stuff, (maybe a slight chord here and there in a tune up)and despite a caustious and respectful audience, seemed to enjoy himself. the songs were good, the vocal was pretty good (but not his best asset) and the guitar sounded the best its been for a while... even if the genreal sound was a bit off every so often. A great night.. a few brand new songs were played as well and I suppsoe theres a chance he'll be on the festival circuity this summer.. But why does he have to chew gum all the time..

Ok, there you have it.. and here's a photo.. he did actually pose for me for one after this, but the flash failed me.. so he just got on with the music.

Are you sure you went to the right gig?

That looks like a bloated Paul Young!

Thanks for that Ruff. Agree with your comments on "Boomslang". No dates in Scotland which is a pity.

Johnny Marr at ULU last night was one of the worst gigs in history. He looked like a fat gypsy and the music was awful. I cried all the way home

Really?? That bad??

I'm going to try to see him at the Fillmore here in SF at the end of the month. It'll be after Coachella though, so he'll probably be exhausted.

Re:Is the Johnny on this board Johnny Marr?

It is just Johnny is either a fan of Marr or he is Marr.

Re:Is the Johnny on this board Johnny Marr?

I have Boomslang as well.

I think the album is o.k. I don't appreciate the electric crap. I'm depressed about the fact that he resents his past as a Smiths memeber so much, so determined to come up with something new. I'm assuming he sounds better live.

I wish he would play a Smiths song or two though.

Well, we had a good time! Not saying it was as good as the Libertines (who could be?) but it was certainly better than most

He does look a little paunchy I must admit.. The photo can tell lies!! Morrissey alwasy looks better in real life nowadays. Anyway, Johnny, well, I couldn't help but notice his hands. Very stubby fingers and small they were.. And you know what they say about people with small hands......

I like that one. But yes, very gypsy-ish.

Yeah I suppose there is a bit of the traveller look about him! Not a good thing round these parts.. or his parts I'd imagine.

I have about 12 of these pictures but they're all the same really.. I have one of me in a West Ham Boys Club T shirt as well.. pondering whether to post it so GRim can get some credit for the T!

Re: The girl Liz Bonney had a night off, Zak Starkey and the Kula Shaker guy were there!!

I don't know what happened to Liz?

No, Jonny posts on JMarr.com. you should go there

> Or is he a Marr fan.
He's always asking how Andy is doing and nobody knows so maybe you can offer your wonderful insight

Re: Does Johnny really ask how Andy Rourke is doing?? or is that lies.

That would be nice to know. Or is it lies to get rid of me like the Brian thing was?

Well, you're the one who asked Johnny if he knew who Andy Rourke was!?!

Re: Andy Rourke is in that photo as well. That is well cool!!

Re: I asked Johnny Marr if he remembered Andy Rourke.

Ofcorse Johnny Marr knows who Andy Rourke is!!! They go back a long way to when they were at school together.
