Morrissey Central “REBELS WITHOUT ASSISTANCE” (December 22, 2022)

"It's been quite sad. The absence of any promotion is noticeable. It's devastating how no one can ever get this right. But they can't, or they won't. Radio stations, as far as I can tell, will play just about anything they're asked to. But as I've always said, true artists must always look after themselves whereas non-artists are encouraged and advanced beyond reason. When you walk through a storm hold your head up high … as the song goes!"

Morrissey in conversation, Los Angeles, December 2022.

Gregor Samsa

I straighten up, and my position is one of hope.
Morrissey in conversation? What’s the meaning of this?

And if true artists look after themselves, why is he so f***ing keen on being signed to - and looked after by - a (major) record label?

This is really weird

The site is clearly run by Sam for Morrissey at his behest...

So why on earth post things like this? A reader wrote in that they overheard mozzer havin a chat with C, H and K (names withheld, we never reveal our sources here at MC)

Just release a statement that record company #42 has pissed you off again

Still, though, promotion has been eerily quiet for a good song

Why bother with radio stations?
They are a thing of the past.
No one listens to them anymore.

The song is great, and doing well, and that is all that matters really.

Ain't that the truth.
Ya see it time and again, across assorted
forms of expression.

I think even this passive aggressive swipe in too much. Why must he burn all his bridges?

How can you be that naïve?

15 million weekly listeners that are in his demographic that are probably listening to the radio because they're not listening to spotify - They're the people that will go out and buy a record and put him in the top ten... which he seems to really crave.

So, yeah, he probably wants to bother with radio stations

Instead of moaning, how about getting off your backside and doing something yourself? Ditch this stupid refusal to talk to the media, get out there and flog the record to anyone who will listen. Print media and radio stations will be queuing up to talk to you after years of silence - say you'll speak to anyone on air as long as they play the new single. Drum up some publicity yourself instead of waiting for it to be handed to you on a silver platter - those days are long gone.

I think he's too afraid.

Go out and buy a record? It's 2022, they don't sell cd singles anymore.

I'd sooner strap dynamite to my head than ever listen to the radio. Inane nonsense loudmouth DJs and jibberish ad breaks. Beats me why Moz cares about the radio.

The problem for Morrissey is that "they are queuing up" to talk about all the things that taken him to where his career is now. He has painted himself into a corner when it comes to "the mainstream media".

Agreed. Instead of the pity party... if he's so proud of the new material and it's his best ever as he claims... it would be nice to see him put in some hustle to promote his own music.
