I tend to listen to lots of different new things in sobriety, generally Uncut recommended. Lately I have been listening to Felice Brothers, Warren Zevon and Mitch Hedberg a lot.
With a drink in me however...
I would say by far the best, perhaps the only great cover has been 10,000 Maniacs version of Everyday Is Like Sunday, the only other real contenders are the fantastic Bernard Manning medley and The Ukranians.

First heard - This Charming Man on the BBC Top 40 show, I decided that I didn't like it much, but it intrigued me as it was like nothing else at the time.
First purchase was Hatful Of Hollow from the record stall at the Glasgow Savoy Centre - laregely due to the budget price.

Corrissey, the Clash video was a Complete Control misheard lyrics video, obviously American, but it took advantage of Strummer's garbled vocal to very amusing effect, especially the Rob Zombie line.
