Whats your favourite morrissey album ?

At the moment, for me it has to be "I Am Not a Dog on Chain". I just can't fault it, start to finish, and it's nice to see Morrissey turning to more personal lyrics after a couple of albums of mostly political songs. I also just think it's musically one of the most interesting and immediate...

Morrissey A-Z: "I Am Not a Dog on a Chain"

This song reminds me a lot of "Heaven Knows I'm Miserable Now". Very on the nose lyrics that, if you take them too seriously it becomes almost unbearably cringe-inducing. I appreciate the sentiments of both songs, but the lyrics are just too forthright and they come across as awkward in places...

Morrissey A-Z: "How Can Anybody Possibly Know How I Feel?"

I liked this a lot more when I was a teenager and first heard it. For me, the lyrics haven't aged very well. Still brings a little smile with some of the lines but not something I listen to outside of listening to the whole album these days.

Morrissey A-Z: "I Am Hated for Loving"

Agreed! I think it works really well in the context of the overall album, and I do love the way he sings that part too, might be one of my favourite understated vocal performances on the album. I suppose the lyrics are a little self-pitying, but I don't necessarily mind that either. Sometimes...

Morrissey A-Z: "Home Is a Question Mark"

Great song! I love the melodies, and although one commenter mentioned how Morrissey can't sustain that final note live, that he could at least manage it for the album is very impressive. Morrissey's voice just gets better and better. I also enjoy the lyrics. I like how he can make something as...

Morrissey A-Z: "Honey, You Know Where to Find Me"

I think it's a lovely little song, would make a good album track. I've been listening to Southpaw Grammar a lot lately and while I like it more now than I used to, I can't help but wish some of the plodding rockers were replaced with lighter touches like this one.

Morrissey A-Z: "Hold On To Your Friends"

Great song, possibly one of my favourite Morrissey songs. I used to be part of a very explosive friendship group, and I was generally the one trying to make peace between the sides. This song meant a lot to me back then, and again now, with lockdown and everything.

I am Not a Dog on a Chain one year later

I still think it's one of the best things he's ever done. I hadn't listened to Morrissey for years having not liked his last couple of efforts very much. This was a complete 180 for me; it had me hooked right from the beginning. It's accessible, nostalgic, and the lyrics are not as political as...

"Kill Uncle" at 30: Oddball album or timeless classic? - Dickie Felton

I think assessing it in terms of individual songs, it's not very good. But as a whole, it's got a nice mood, and I like how relaxing in a kind of as you said it "odball" way, although for me that's a good thing. I think it's his most underrated album at any rate.

    13 Morrissey studio albums ranking

A bit late to this but I just did a ranking based off of how many Morrissey songs from each of his albums are on my current Morrissey playlist. It's definitely not an official ranking, but I was surprised at the results! The scores with the same number I decided to fall back on my personal...

    Anna Calvi (Eliza)

Re: Anna Calvi (New Single) There's also this stunning trailer, which I've been listening to non-stop since it came out. If the rest of the album is even as good as these two samples then it should be at least on par with her debut.

Quality of Production and Musicianship on Smiths Recordings

The first album is my favourite, but I do admit to preferring some of the versions on Hatful of Hollow, with the exception of Still Ill and You've Got Everything Now. As for Mike's drumming, I've never had any problem with it and I personally think Morrissey's opinion is probably tainted by his...
