Mancunion: Pretenders live in Manchester: "Punk poetry, new ventures, and love letters to The Smiths" (November 2, 2023)

It's hard to deny greatness, especially when you were a contemporary of the artist - going through similar struggles at the same time. She's always been open and clear about her feelings.

Johnny Marr releases The Best of

Well, that was Johnny Marr & The Healers, though maybe in 10-20 years there will be a true Marr greatest hits which features Smiths, Electronic, possible Healers/Song w/B. Duffy/Zimmer stuff and Marr solo songs. I've seen that in a few artists' 'best of' collections. Boomslang had some great...

Johnny Marr releases The Best of

Yep. Three great examples of Johnny (solo) at his BEST, omitted from this list. Who's coming up with this stuff?

Johnny Marr releases The Best of

No 'I Want The Heartbeat' or 'European Me' - both could've easily been on this list. I always wonder about the 'selection process' with these kind of releases.

    The Cure debut new songs

Also, listen to Boys Don't Cry LP (US release), from before they used keyboards. There are some excellent songs on that, and it's very accessible for non-fans. That's a good one to start with too. You'll get an understanding of how good of a songwriter Robert was in the early days, and...

You're right about that. I search for the expected release date a few times per month as well.

Louder Than War: "How soon is now? Billy Duffy finally joins Johnny Marr on stage" (August 17, 2023)

Not that this is exactly related to Duffy, but is anyone else fond of the Southern Death Cult?

Louder Than War: "How soon is now? Billy Duffy finally joins Johnny Marr on stage" (August 17, 2023)

Well, there you go - connections from his dad already in-place! Thanks for posting this. :p

Louder Than War: "How soon is now? Billy Duffy finally joins Johnny Marr on stage" (August 17, 2023)

Good point. Honestly, Eddie Money in his final years played with a huge backing band - which included 2 or 3 of his children. Not that Johnny has health woes, but his son would gain some rich work experience/connections playing in his dad's band. Nile might've been asked (or not), and...

Louder Than War: "How soon is now? Billy Duffy finally joins Johnny Marr on stage" (August 17, 2023)

Why doesn't Nile play in his dad's group? Just curious.

Louder Than War: "How soon is now? Billy Duffy finally joins Johnny Marr on stage" (August 17, 2023)

That's so cool man!!! Obviously, he's just a regular person with a 'job' and his own life, but it would be really memorable seeing him, and/or nice to say hello to him.

NME: "Watch Johnny Marr perform a Smiths classic with Gaz Coombes" (August 14, 2023)

 I suppose Girl From could go either way (due to the musical style, subject matter {maybe?}). I think it tells a very descriptive tale and alludes to many truths. Plus, the ballroom-dance like 'La Da Dah, La Da Dah' part really sounds nice. Regarding Spent, 'No Bus, No Boss...' is a...

Louder Than War: "How soon is now? Billy Duffy finally joins Johnny Marr on stage" (August 17, 2023)

This is great! Thanks to everyone who posted the media as well! Big fan of both of these guys, who shared an apartment as teens and ended up growing into great guitarists with their own unique voices/way of playing. Duffy has such a smooth style, much more than what you see on these clips...

NME: "Watch Johnny Marr perform a Smiths classic with Gaz Coombes" (August 14, 2023)

Well, Girl From Tel Aviv has amazing lyrics. That is 'recent'. So does Forgive Someone, Spent The Day, etc. Yes, he hasn't written another YA or V&I type album lately, where most of the songs presented have great lyrics. You're right about lyrics today not being consistently very good - the...

NME: "Watch Johnny Marr perform a Smiths classic with Gaz Coombes" (August 14, 2023)

I saw him live too, when he was with The Healers. His vocals are better now. Still not lead vocalist material, but certainly a terrific composer and unique player.

NME: "Watch Johnny Marr perform a Smiths classic with Gaz Coombes" (August 14, 2023)

He could've done far worse. I was pleased with the result.

NME: "Watch Johnny Marr perform a Smiths classic with Gaz Coombes" (August 14, 2023)

Johnny certainly likes his vests! :D Let's not forget about I Want The Heartbeat! That's a great track. In fact, his first two LPs had many highlights. When 'The Messenger' LP first came out, I was really proud of Johnny (even though his vox are kinda 'lo-fi Lou Reed'). You can tell he...

Alain Whyte: Band update (June 16, 2023)

Before coming back to the Morrissey Band, didn't Alain post a few recently recorded and original tracks featuring Gary Day, Spencer, Craig Gannon (?) and himself? So, it seems like Gustavo is joining a group already in progress.

Alain Whyte: Band update (June 16, 2023)

It's a very lovely song in general. Alain performs it here with such finesse. This is one of my faves from his batch of YouTube Smiths covers.
