To be honest, at this point I don't really take any of these "I love Morrissey, but he has terrible beliefs now, of course" lines seriously. It's like a hail mary for these people. Just a way of signalling: "I know he's problematic, so please don't attack me because his songs are just sooo...

I'm not very impressed with either the AI generated vocals or even worse, lyrics. I asked Google's "Bard" programme to write a song in the style of the Smiths and it was embarrassingly bad and clichéd. I also asked it to give Shakespeare a go and it didn't even use the appropriate English, just...
I've never sat down and thought about the Jesse tracks specifically, but seeing this list I can see now why people think he's not the best. Still, some of his best work is his most recent stuff, so maybe he's getting better! Of the songs I know well enough to rate...
All You Need Is Me - 6...
The irony of changing the lyrics to a song originally about being gay to remove the original subject matter and replace it with insulting a gay (or at least, non-straight) man.
Have to say I never really got the appeal of this song. I think the introduction is way too long, and the actual song itself doesn't really develop much, just plods on mournfully. It feels very one note, even with Morrissey's falsetto and the guitar kicking in at the end. "I Know it's Over" was...
This is one of my favourite Smiths songs. I think it has a great melody, and the lyrics are Morrissey at his self-deprecating best. The bridge when he sings "I know that you would like me, if only you could see me" is beautiful. Throughout the song, he comes across as ironic and self-assured in...
I think it's a great song. I get what people mean when they call the song "slight" but I like an album that has a mixture of heavy hitters with lighter songs. And as light as the song is musically and melodically, there is a bit of dark mixed in with some of the lyrics, and I think it works...

At the moment, for me it has to be "I Am Not a Dog on Chain". I just can't fault it, start to finish, and it's nice to see Morrissey turning to more personal lyrics after a couple of albums of mostly political songs. I also just think it's musically one of the most interesting and immediate...
This song reminds me a lot of "Heaven Knows I'm Miserable Now". Very on the nose lyrics that, if you take them too seriously it becomes almost unbearably cringe-inducing. I appreciate the sentiments of both songs, but the lyrics are just too forthright and they come across as awkward in places...
I liked this a lot more when I was a teenager and first heard it. For me, the lyrics haven't aged very well. Still brings a little smile with some of the lines but not something I listen to outside of listening to the whole album these days.
