As I said, “in my opinion.” There's no accounting for taste, as the old saying goes.
That you rendered a verdict on the aforementioned artists based on a single YouTube clip is lazy and laughable.
“Morrissey’s opinion of modern music is correct also.” Or wrong also. I’m going with wrong.
Sure, I can provide a list of mostly young(ish) artists I greatly admire. None have yet hit "Dylan, Lennon, or Bowie" levels of fame, but each has written a song that only they could write, and each has -- in my opinion -- hit on something very special.
Michael Kiwanuka, Sault, Jens Lekman...
"There are no modern songwriters of whom we can say 'no one but you could have written that song.' There are no modern songwriters to whom we can say, 'you've really hit on something.'"
But there is an OLD songwriter of whom we can say "no one but you could have spouted such nonsense" and "no...
Critiquing = trolling? Offering a rebuttal = trolling? 🧐 Nah.
As for Baldwin, I'm quite familiar with his work. Are YOU? Do you honestly think he'd share Morrissey's "sick to death" sentiments? C'mon... 🙄
"I am sick to death of issues of race and identity politics …"
UGH. This from the man who claims to count James Baldwin as a hero.

Pretty much anyone can publish on Medium, so despite her attempts to portray herself as a serious journalist, she's just another armchair pundit with a laptop.
The "we" in that statement must be you and your reflection -- because there are plentyyyy of us who'd have preferred, at the very least, a more "reliable" Morrissey... not a man who fires people by postcard, burns nearly every bridge, holds more grudges than lonely high court judges, cancels...
"And Margaret On The Guillotine was never about Margaret Thatcher. It's clearly about Margaret Atwood!"
PSA: Asian Rut is still about Asians and Bengali In Platforms is still about Bengalis.
I thought the same. 😒 I'd have been very disappointed had I attended in person. Bleh.
I mean, if you're gonna "open the vault," why not choose a truly classic gig when he was at the height of his powers... circa early-to-mid 90's?
