  • Don't complain about lack of options. You've got to pick a few when you do multiple choice. Those are the breaks.
  • Feel free to suggest poll ideas if you're feeling creative. I'd strongly suggest reading the past polls first.
  • This whole thing is wildly inaccurate. Rounding errors, ballot stuffers, dynamic IPs, firewalls. If you're using these numbers to do anything important, you're insane.

  • What are the odds?

    Quirky and sublime.

Would normally vote for "Last of the famous..." but everyone else will anyway.

If I had a choice to vote for the worst single it would be Sunny, proper rubbish that one!

How anyone can vote for shit like Redondo Beach is beyond me.

  • It can only be November . Its one of his favourite songs and the most played live . The line " A hostage to kindness and the wheels underneath her " is genius . Ouija is vastly underrated also . S.T.E.V.E.N - P.U.S.H. O double F .

  • The song is so dreamy. Good poll!!!

A close second place would have been "Interlude."

I love the video for "My Love Life"- btw.

Gorgeous, melodic pop with great vocals/backing vocals.

    Simply divine.------- KEN S.

On the other hand, Ouija Board was the worst.

Bona Drag is definitely overlooked too often.

  • I went for November purely because the lyrics are quite remarkable. I have to disagree with the person who slates 'Sunny'- criminally underated! Songs without choruses are often better then those with. The only 'turkey' in the list to me is Interlude. A brilliant song but Siouxsie does an awful job on it. I do have a big soft spot for Picadilly Palare but it is a bit too 'Madness' for its own good. Ouija Board has aged well i think and when Morrissey launches into 'Would you ouija board, would you ouija board...' I bet you all tap those toes and fingers!

  • I have to sat it's a tie between Playboys and Love Life. I remember when Playsboys was first released. It was a top ten hit in England and did well on America's Alternative Radio. It is also the only Moz or Smiths single I owned on record, tape, and CD. Cool!
My Love Life could have been a big hit in America and in England but the video was shite and there was no album to go with it. Just another missed change for Moz and Co.

It contains all the essence of Morrissey... the power of the lyrics is unbelievable, I've never heard any other song that make me feel haunted by the sadness, pain, cruelty, empathy, irony... he made one of the most tragic poems ever with that song, and you can feel it when you hear his haunting voice when he condemn " sleep on and dream of love.. because is the closest you will get to love"..amazing.

  • Interesting Drug........always adored that song. Perhaps it was the fact that Gannon, Rourke, Joyce were the players and it had some fantastic lyrical moments: "Young married couple in debt, ever felt had". It was very nostalgic to hear for the 1st time back in......88? In my opinion, as close to a Smiths songs as you can get. Put your daggers away...I did say "in my opinion"

  • "Boxers" gets my vote and "Sunny" is a close second, "Playboys" is probably the best but i gets everyone else's votes so I'll give mine to the terrible underestimated song "Boxers", really deserved it's own tour, too bad he has stopped doing it live. Plus it's always nice to hear about his obssesions, in that way it's closely related to "Playboys". There's also a mystique around this one, about the strange (for me who hate sports) thing about losing even if the crowd dosen't really cares, they love him all the same (much or less...).

  • My Love Life is a lovely song. The chorus "I know you love one person, so why can't you love two?" is simply sublime. That line moves me as does other Morrissey/Smiths numbers and there are too many to mention. The other songs listed such as TLOTIP, November and Sunny are also great tracks.

There's something I'll never get: most people here seem to loathe the Southpaw Grammar/My early burglary years/Maladjusted years, and I never undestand why. Ok, Maladjusted is not his best by a long shot (Roy's Keen IS a low), but has some great tracks (Trouble Loves Me, Alma Matters) and the b-sides to those singles were amazing, Lost being my personal favorite of that lot. And MEBY is one of his best compilations ever.

  • The Last of the International Playboys was a great track, made me excited for the new album that never came! That is until 'Bona Drag' which was his all time greatest compilation. 'Playboys' also had that great video featuring Andy, Mike, and Craig Gannon--all who looked great in the video. Made me wish they carried on without Johnny as The Smiths. I'm a huge Craig Gannon fan, it could've worked (or not).

I know 'Redondo Beach' was a Patti Smith cover but Morrissey sings it gender specifically heterosexual, does that mean Patti sang it gender specifically homosexual? I have always wondered that since I heard Moz's cover--I've never heard Patti Smith's original version. If anyone knows, I'd love to know the answer, thanks.

  • The only time in my life when I lost interest in Morrissey was when he released The Last of the Famous International Playboys, Interesting Drug and Ouija Board, Ouija Board. Musically, they do nothing for me.
November Spawned A Monster had such a terrific sleeve that I had to buy it and it was the first "He doesn't need Johhny Marr moment" that I had felt after 1987. I failed to buy Piccadilly Palare as I was busy discovering hedonism but discovered it post Kill Uncle when I reluctantly bought Bona Drag. I voted for this one - I love the music.
Pregnant For The Last Time is fantastic.
My Love Life has a similar atmosphere with its jangly guitars and dreamy melody to Boy With Thorn and I adore it.
Interlude reminds me of a girl, but my God it's a long story. Boxers - Johnny The Twat Rogan slated this and said it didn't compare well with other pugilistic songs (what are they? How pretentious can you get). It's a decent song.
Sunny. The last non-album release. Seemed like a scraping of the EMI barrel, although I like it.
Redondo Beach / There Is A light That Never Goes Out (live). I have listened to half of Redondo Beach. My life, like my inside trouser measurement, is too short. Musically, I prefer the 7 Worlds Collide TIALTNGO - Morrissey's band really plod, (their greatest sin is the inept bass playing on How Soon Is Now?)
