Nice interview. It's nice to see Morrissey actually doing a current interview where he seems to be answering the questions without the usual sarcasm and lack of information. It was nice to hear the man himself talk about the need to get a label and put out some of his new stuff.

I think instead of Morrissey saying that a Smiths reunion will not happen in a million years he should be honest and say, "The Smiths won't reunite until Johnny and I are down to our last $100,000 and our current lifestyle is not supportable on reissues of our old repackaged music". Even though it most likely will never happen, if the two just had a change of heart, it would be nice to hear what kind of music they could put together now.

I don't think it would be a good idea a Smiths reunion. Their time is over. Too simply.

Well, nuclear war is likely and earthquakes happen regularly. What's the wait?

I don't see a SmiTHs reunion anytime soon either. It would be nice, but I personally think that MOrriSSey is a much better performer without them. Besides if there was a reunion, what would happen to BOZ, ALAIN, GARY AND SPIKE? I don't think it would be fair and I don't care what anyone says or thinks, but MOrriSSEY is a much better singer/performer without THe SmiTHs! I hope MOZ, sign's a record deal soon! Cause i'm dying to hear he's new material.

If two former co-workers took you to court and stole your money unfairly would you want to work with them ever again?

Well, the fact is the Smiths will never have a reunion. Maybe one day Morrissey and Marr could record some new music, but that's unlikely.

Instead what I really want is for Moz to get a new record contract!!! :-)

I can buy Morrissey's reason for not playing new material in Latin America, but that excuse didn't apply for the USA tour!

I feel really sad when I hear that probably there`s no chance of a Smiths comeback ,It really hurts me realising that I probably wont hear Smiths playing together songs like Mr.Shankly , Sweet and ....,Some girls......,Headmaster`s Ritual and so on ...................

yeah diogo, but that's not such a bad thing to have not seen the smiths. i felt the same way about the cocteau twins, wishing that i'd seen them live, but having so high expectations meant that if i had actually seen them, it wouldn't have been as good as i had imagined it to be.

I saw the Smiths, and your expectations would have been fulfilled, but perhaps you would see his solo gigs in a different light

Incredible , only 2000 people in Sao Paulo and 1200 in Porto Alegre. What a shame!.
I went to Santiago and there were 7000!.
I am sure that in Lima would be more than 2000.
Well Brazil really don't like MOZ.

I Think you're wrong Otto... In Porto Alegre was a few audience cause the place is small ("Bar Opnião")... but in São Paulo was about 4.000 per show!! I was in Olimpya on 3th an 4th April.... two days only in São Paulo and other three cities (Porto Alegre, Curitiba and RIO)... we can say that was a brazilian tour instead for Latin American!!!!!

About Smiths reunion... no way... MOZ is more Rocker with his band... just great!!!

why are people still talking about a band that broke up in 1987? I could understand it if the members hadn't moved on and were just sitting on their asses, but come on. oh and morrissey is selfish not to play new songs. he's getting paid you know. and thinking he's above selling himself? please.

- Thu, Apr 06, 2000 at 15:52:22 (PDT) | #23

Dear confused: I understand your point, but we are talking about them, in my view, for 2 reasons: 1. The Queen is Dead 2. Strangeways here we come. I was around for both releases, and well, like The Beatles breaking up, there ain't been anything like The Smiths since then. Now, The Doves, from hailing from Manchester also...we shall see...maybe they are the 3rd wave? Time will tell.

Incredible! In the concert of the river I and my friend were the only ones to be hidden behind the stage before start the concert. In ATL HALL two access ramps exist, in one of them (the one that won't be the entrance) it was open. I didn`t think twice, I called my friend and we entered. We were hidden more or less 3 hours in a hole where if cover stages of another shows, it was great, but almost time. The safety found us and it threw us in the bars (better). The best of the history is that didn't use my entrance and I attended the show in the face of Morrissey.

He/she wanted to thank the security guy who left that open door. THANK YOU!!!

It was the most incredible concert of all my life, one of the most happiest days I've ever had. His performance on stage is something from heaven. What a perfect day!!

I'm an unconditionl Smiths fan, but I don't think their reunion would be a good ideia. For those who had the opportunite to enjoy the band in its era, now there's still that "I was there" feeling, and for those who discovered the importance of this band after its end, there's a magic which would probably end up if the band joined again. Besides that, Moz hasn't lost anything being by himself. He's the best of al.
