The main difference is cultural, the right to bear arms is an alien concept in the UK so when a tragedy like this happens it seems obvious to (most of) us that the problem lies with lax gun laws.

I've found the opposite to be true, when I tell people I’m vegetarian they often react defensively ‘oh we’re designed to eat meat etc., that’s just stupid (as they waft some sort of meat product under my nose).
