Following the uncovering of the four unreleased tracks last week on the same site, Mrs. Shankly sends word that her site, Mrs. Shankly's mp3 of the week now has what is believed to be an instrumental demo of the song "Honey, You Know Where To Find Me" (from the rumored "Miraval sessions"). A brief summary from the page:
This is an instrumental demo of Honey, You Know Where to Find Me, by Alain Whyte. This was mentioned in Morrissey-solo back in February this year. I don't think it is a hoax, but then again I have no way to verify the authenticity of this track.

Thanks to Franck for sharing this track. Here is what Franck had to say on this demo, Where is it come from? In 1994, Alain White make a tape for Moz with new material for the future "southpaw LP". One of my best friend, worked with the band in Miraval (12/94) and Moz gave him the tape. Just for info, My friend said me Alain is a great man, a wonderful guitarist and ... one of his favorite song is "Pretty Girls Make Graves".
A photo of the band during the session from Franck is also included.

UPDATE (Dec. 11, 2001): Boz wrote in to say that "Honey, You Know Where To Find Me" is a real song, and he was the one who actually wrote it.

Sadness at the death of John Walters

BBC radio have announced the passing of John Walters. This is sad news indeed.

When I was hearing the Smiths sessions on the John Peel show I had no idea that it was Walters who had booked them to appear. A quick shufty in the book that shall not be named reveals that Walters gave the Smiths a second session as compensation for 'Reel around the Fountain' being banned from 'Kid' Jensen's show... Those Peel/Jensen sessions became the backbone of 'Hatful of Hollow' of course.

John Walters was a very funny man, who came the public side of the microphone for slots in the Janice Long show (and Jensen's?). Hi sreview of the music papers was unmissable. My favourite moment was when he read from an interview conducted with all the Smiths. Walters did an excellent impression of Morrissey, explaining why the band was named 'The Smiths'. I also recall him talking about receiving a postcard from Morrissey which read "weather is here, wish you were beautiful'.

I know this is trivial but worth mentioning as it is part of a Gap advertisement and is in a reputable magazine.

In the latest (September) edition of Men's Health Magazine (several pages from the cover) is an advertisement for The Gap in which a man is standing against a white wall. The caption to the left of him reads "my first love: the smiths".

Is it me or is the Smiths' name getting more and more commercially popular these days? Either way I don't mind.

MTV was doing this flashback of 80's stuff for its 20th anniversary. The host (Dave Holmes) was sporting a SMITHS shirt throughout the show. Just thought I'd let you know. Don't think they passed any SMITHS/MOZ vids though. Wow, what a surprise! Hmm, I guess the shirt is enough, it is after all American MTV. By the way, it was the QUEEN IS DEAD shirt, the one of them by the Salford Lad's Club.
