* (To put this in context, this review appeared immediately AFTER a long and rather
negative review of Oasiss new album.)*
Received wisdom is that another Manchester-Irish icon blew it long ago, but even on
half-power, Morrissey still has more than enough individuality to make his solo records
worth more than a cursory listen.
Maladjusted (Island) contains the usual mix of the sublime (Wide To
Receive, Ammunition, Trouble Loves Me and Papa
Jack) and the occasionally ridiculous (a song about a window cleaner called, gulp,
Roys Keen), and even if it seems clear that hes withdrawn
completely into his own world, its worth remembering that its a world he
created for himself.
Noel Gallagher, take note.
