Johnny Marr on remasters, touring, vegetarianism

Johnny Marr talks about remasters on Radcliffe and Maconie
Link and summary posted by Dave2006 in the forums (original thread):

Wednesday - With Johnny Marr - Radcliffe & Maconie, BBC Radio 6 Music

He says he's very very happy with the remasters.
He took all the 'nonsense' off the original records 'I knew we sounded better than that'.
Stephen Street was working in the next door studio at the time... and he came in from time to time... high fives all round.
Bernard Sumner was also involved - apparently he's a Smiths 'expert'. [Correction posted in the thread by minminmusic - "Go back and listen to the radio broadcast...it was Bernard BUTLER...not Sumner."]
He's not sure if the other Smiths have heard it... 'it's only just come out'. So, side stepping Morrissey's comments...

Conversation with Johnny Marr by Alex Needman - johnny marr plays guitar

Excerpt:

Do you like touring or do you like recording the best?
I didn’t like touring for years. In The Smiths there was always the assumption that I was…you know…

You were in charge, weren’t you?
You said it! (Johnny …falls about laughing.)
...
How long have you been vegan?
Since 2005. I’ve been vegetarian since whenever ‘Meat Is Murder’ came out (in 1985). It wasn’t a problem because I ate cigarettes and coffee anyway – I didn’t eat very much food. And my girlfriend, who’s now my wife, was vegetarian. I’m incredibly proud of having made an album called ‘Meat Is Murder’. In America, there are so many people who are vegetarian because of that record. When people get too cynical about pop music or pop culture, I can say firsthand that I’ve seen the evidence of it making a difference. It certainly made a difference to a lot of animals. But I don’t get on people’s case about it. I’ve been around one or two vegetarians… who – and it’s not who you’re thinking – I’ve seen put people off vegetarianism.

It's almost as if Marr has turned into a young Morrissey with the lifestyle he is living now. While Morrissey has turned into the rock and roll Marr. Nice media friendly little interview. Just gives enough away to keep up the image and cool factor of Marr.

Nice work Johnny thankyou for taking me back to those magic times again.
I'm really glad The Smiths played such a MASSIVE part in my up-bringing and life.
The excitement of the journey to the record shop to pick up those records and rush home to listen and study words artwork and run out groove messages. And then also queing up to buy tickets to see the Smiths, the feeling and the be-longing.
Oh those miserable/happy days!!!!!!

Also dig your site

Thanks Johnny.

Maybe the Smiths were not inducted into the Hall of Fame this year because they were too in-you-face about meat eating. Hardcore meat-eaters don't like that sorta thing flung at them. And the cover of that album says it all!
Just my two-cents.

Am i f***ing missing something?

There is not one mention of the remasters in that interview...

If your missing something your a plastic yank so F U !!!!!!!!!!
Can't wait for the yankee reviews of his gigs cause he was shit over here BIGTIME !!!!!!!!

NO, f*** YOU BITCH.

No wonder Moz hates this site.

Morrissey (and all moral beings) should follow Marr's example and GO VEGAN. It is the only consistent moral baseline for opposing the unnecessary suffering humans inflict on other animals.

who the f*** would want to be a yank plank anyway ya prick!

Johnny....what a class act. I could see why Moz gravitated to him....very up guy. I'm shelling out and buying the remastered product....If Marr did it...Im sure it's awesome. My collection will be complete....the entire Smiths collection already on Original Vinyl....I think I'll just get the CDs.

Peace to all

Agreed. How weird that Moz is so conscientious and such a dedicated animal activist, yet he supports the dairy and veal industries. How bizarre that humanoids consume the lactation of bovine in the first place!
