Farm Sanctuary honors Morrissey, Jon and Tracey Stewart
- Asbury Park Press

Excerpt:

Some seriously cool people — namely former “The Daily Show” host Jon Stewart, his wife Tracey, and iconic British rocker Morrissey — will be honored by an incredibly worthwhile organization in New York City this fall.

The Stewarts and Morrissey will be celebrated by Farm Sanctuary on Oct. 24 at their gala scheduled to be held at the Plaza on Fifth Avenue. Based in Watkins Glen, New York, Farm Sanctuary operates three shelters in New York and California providing lifelong care for nearly 1,000 rescued farm animals while working to change laws to decrease abuse of farm animals and promoting the vegan lifestyle, which is free of animal products.

...“For some people I think that (Morrissey’s) approach will be very resonant. I think on the whole he does more positive than negative,” Baur said. “But, I do also recognize that some people might also close their eyes and walk away and put up walls, which is not the kind of thing that would advance our cause, ultimately.

“But, different people respond to different things, and I think there are a variety of ways to advocate for animals and raise awareness for the issue. Most people just don’t think enough about the fact that animals suffer terribly in the food industry. And, I think one of the the things is that people need to start thinking about that, and what (Morrissey) does helps people to start thinking. When people think, that begins a process that often leads to their eating fewer or no animals.”

UPDATE Oct. 5 - added quote from article:

...Morrissey, a longtime vegan, has been a vocal proponent of animal rights since his days with influential ’80s rock band the Smiths. For proof, look no further than that band’s landmark 1985 LP, “Meat is Murder.”

“I am very proud to be offered this very intelligent award,” Morrissey said in a statement regarding the Farm Sanctuary honor. “My firm hope, of course, is that all people will arrive at sophisticated and compassionate enlightenment by understanding how the hidden hell of factory farming, slaughterhouses and dairy farming is destroying the planet far more than any other known entity, and is an unimaginably evil torture for animals who ask for nothing but to be allowed a chance to live their lives. The future is fantastic due to the courage of Farm Sanctuary.”

Good that you got angry! That is the point, Meat Indeed is Murder. I thank Morrissey for keep on showing the cruelty and murdering animals suffer at the hands of the meat industry. I so much love that he talks about police brutality too on the video during Ganglord (matching those powerful ironic lyrics... I hope by now you are not eating animals, or wearing them, dear Morrissey fan above.

I am glad Morrissey is getting recognition for all his endless work speaking against animal abuse.

I believe that Morrissey used to stay at the Plaza in the 1990's. It's since been converted to condos with a few hotel rooms remaining.
It's a gorgeous place for an affair, as I have gone to a few weddings at the Plaza. Hopefully we will see some photos of him with his award.
Farm Sanctuary is a wonderful organization and they welcome people to come tour their facility. I plan to go this Autumn as the Finger Lakes region is a beautiful area of New York State.

Really? On the 21st in Hammersmith, (assuming he turns up, as its not sold out) I will go for a piss at this point, or another pint, if i don't need a piss. So what bothers me more, A cow having its head chopped off or an innocent bloke/women having their head chopped off by some maniac?

Some folks need to get real.

Both scenarios are bothersome.

This confuses me. I am not sure when someone cares about innocent animals, someone always has to hate them for not caring about people? Surface: looking forward to see your pic at an anti ISiS protest.

Wow, it all really goes over your head. I do not believe anyone said chopping a human head off is acceptable. Why does everything come down to a choice with people????? in order for me to not want a human head chopped off i have to want a cows head to be chopped off, where is the logic in that?

Burger King, McDonalds, and KFC do not make profits in the USA anymore. It's the rest of the world that is keeping them afloat. Anonymous-

Nothing, I was trying to point out that getting angry at seeing a cows head being chopped off is pretty small in the scheme of things. I get angry when I see innocent humans being decapitated.

...and clinging onto the do gooder raft with bono maccartney to keep their pathetic past the sell by careers afloat whats the difference between those three and a bucket of shit-nothing.

What bothers me about *some* animal rights activists, and I think Morrissey is one of them, is that their position on animal rights is fuelled by a deep misanthropic attitude towards other people, and not just meat eaters.

"My life is a succession of people saying goodbye".

Whose fault is that?

Do you not think that it's the other way around? And that some people's misanthropy is fueled by the way a vast amount of humans treat animals?

The head chopping part isn't the most disturbing part of that portion of the video. I went to quite a few shows and this last clip always affected me the most.

The massive cow was on his back on a metal table, his legs bound together, writhing in pain while a slaughterhouse worker carved away at his neck. This animal was alive and feeling pain. I care about people being murdered and I care about innocent, gentle creatures being mutilated while fully conscious. His head was chopped off when he finally died. The poor being, there is no excuse for what he went through.

I want to brace yourself ; this may come as something of a shock ... do you think it's possible to care about both human and animal heads ?

As an aside , last week I donated money to the Red Cross for foreign aid. This doesn't mean I hate Doctors Without Borders ...

Benny, this is a straight and sincere request: go to a GP, show them your posting history on this site, and ask them if it seems sane. I honestly believe you need an objective view on your behaviour, which is insane.
