Johnny Marr on "Hand In Glove" - dailymail.co.uk

Liked this ~

" Morrissey and Marr had met the previous spring and had begun writing songs together in the summer of 1982. The guitarist recalls that, by early 1983, he and Morrissey’s lives boiled down to one simple thing:

‘Friendship. That was what had changed in his and my life. We had met each other, were working together, and we were in love with each other, in the best possible way. And Hand In Glove came out of that.

The words sound like the music, and the music sounds like the words – it’s a beautiful thing.’ "

Craig McClean taking the Daily Mail's shilling now? Strange days.

Love all the little details that come out when Johnny gets reminiscent. Why don't you go help Moz write the first half of his book . I think he needs a little help getting started.

Cheers for this wonderful article!

When we were Hand In Glove: With a very pushy guitarist and a tinny old tape recorder, how the Smiths transformed British pop culture - dailymail.co.uk
By CRAIG MCLEAN

It was the Smith's first single and the song that kick-started the most thrilling song-writing partnership of the Eighties

Excerpt -

‘I was at my parents’ house one Sunday evening,’ recalls Marr, ‘and my little brother had a guitar knocking about. I started to play some chords and quickly came up with this riff.

'I got very excited about it as I knew it was good. But I didn’t have anything to record it on, so my girlfriend Angie – who’s now my wife – ran around to her house and snuck her dad’s car out. I got in the car with my guitar, playing the riff over and over again so I wouldn’t forget it!’

Johnny Marr has a younger brother?! Gee after all these years I never knew that.

You can spot Ian in the Data Run program when Morrissey & Johnny visit JM's old primary school - he's the one asking Moz why he holds flowers at 1.28 :guitar:

I seem to remember something of an interview involving a group of young boys and Johnny Marr's little brother taunting Moz with some flowers...

"You can spot Ian in the Data Run program when Morrissey & Johnny visit JM's old primary school - he's the one asking Moz why he holds flowers at 1:28"

Thank you.

A few months ago I read Marr told like this : "The kid who asks, 'Why do you hold flowers when you sing?' is my little brother, Ian, he's never forgiven me." :lbf:

Thank you Amy, I have never seen that video clip before. Is it from a children's show ?

Data Run, yeah. They also appeared on "Charlie's Bus" with Sandie Shaw, have you seen that one? Funny as anything. "I wanted to be called The Rolling Stones, but it was much too much of a mouthful so...The Smiths".

That is a laugh ! They are so sweet in this video. Odd how Miss Shaw keeps poping up. Moz certainly wanted to get her name back in the lights . Thanks Amy

Morrissey's expression to the camera when he pushes the door open at 0.53 makes me laugh out loud. Never fails! And Johnny pretending to beat up the little kid at 1.45 :p

I love how Mozzer has his hand on the little boy's shoulder, pointing out something to him,.the sweet side of Morrissey we rarely get to see.
