Miss this boy...

I was in a great mood on that unforgettable Halloween in 1993. I spent my whole day in the theatre because I was in a play and most of my classes took place in the theatre as well. I went out for dinner before having to return for the play. I remember flipping through the stations on the radio. I'd hear, "River", but I turned the stations so fast that I didn't hear what went along with River, and I really didn't think they were talking about River Phoenix, anyway. I kept hearing his name, so finally I stopped to listen. I felt the blood drain from my face and a sinking feeling - like a weight tied to my leg dragging me down to the bottom of the sea. I'll never forget it.

He was such an inspiration to me in so many ways. He was sincere, lovely and soft spoken. And he grew to be such a great actor. From Stand By Me to I Love You to Death to My Own Private Idaho, the transformation is brilliant to me. I still love his movies and I think of him often. I remember saying, "He's the James Dean of my generation now..." Such a loss. Where would he be now? I'm sure he'd still be amazing.

I can't believe it's been 26 years since his death. Funny how time flies and how quickly things change.
