I've just finished reading all the beatles/smiths threads (btw I love the Beatles but with the smiths it's more like and adoration thing), and I still can't quite make something out... How true are those accusations of Morrissey being music illiterate?? I know his musical skills as far as playing instruments leave a lot to be desired, but I always understood that he played an important role in the composition of the tunes, you know, at least the whistling part of the conception of the songs.

Anyhow, Moz, I'll settle for you even if you are just a lyricist... ever since the mythological times poets have had more importance... just imagine how more important would they have been had they sung like that...

In the Odissey when a priest and a poet fall on their knees before Odysseus, begging him to spare their lives, the hero kills the priest without a thought, but saves the poet. Homer says that he felt awe to slay a man who had been taught his divine art by the gods. Not the priest, but the poets, had influence with heaven - and no one was ever afraid of a poet.
