  1. Shifting Gears

So much negativity. Some people can bring out the worst in me. Others can bring out the best. Women. They can be tough nuts to crack. Perhaps the stereotype of them being petty, catty, jealous, envious, and competitive with one another has some merit. As has been demonstrated here on Solo. Numerous times. I like women. I do. But I seem to become the target of their wrath, for some reason. Perhaps for those reasons previously mentioned. Whatever the case may be, I find this disheartening....

  3. Free Bird, Yeah

I spoke with my son this morning. He had news. Last night he got a golf ball sized tattoo on his upper left ribcage. I said, "You did? Wow, you know I created that canvas. So I feel weird that it has been altered. Haha. Not that it is mine. But you know what I mean." "I know," he said. "I completely understand. That is why I wanted to tell you about it beforehand. But... ." I replied, "Does it look good?" "It looks great," he said. "I got it professionally done. It hurt really bad though....

Thanks so much for your fun, informative, and insightful posts. Love you guys. Lots of other cool people here as well who don't post much. But if you are on my friend's list, then you are fine by me. And you may be fine by me, even if you are not on that...
  5. My baby's coming home!

My son is coming up from Phoenix for the holiday. Can't wait. Going shopping today for all my supplies. Gonna go all out like I did two years ago. Will go see Catching Fire with him on Friday. Should be great fun. We have a ball when we are together. He is so easy going, never gets angry, has a wonderful sense of humor, great at compromising, a great listener, expresses his thoughts and feelings very well, and is very philosophical and perceptive. One couldn't ask for a better son. I know...
  6. What is 'being in love'?

Question of the day: How can us women be so smart in life and so stupid in love? (Not all of us. Calm down dissenters.) Here is my definition of being in love (as asked by hand in glove): I don't think it (being in love) has an objective definition. It is different for each of us. I think it is a feeling of being high. A euphoric state. It has nothing to do with commitment, shared time together, respect, concern. It is about desire for the possibility, for the quest to have this person....
  7. Have Yourself a Merry Little Insomnia

What's to do when suffering with insomnia? Why, watch Christmas videos on YouTube, of course. Growing up, my brother and I's favorite Christmas flick was The Year Without a Santa Claus. 8. Desert Life... and Shoes

*Update ~ Just added an audio capture of the coyotes howling outside my window. Scroll down and click howling link. Its early... 6:40 AM. I woke at 5:00 AM. Oh don't ask why. It is chilly this morning. Yesterday was the first day since April that I have not run the air conditioner. Fall... is it finally here? It's hard to tell. This desert life is a strange one indeed. Hot summers. Cold winters. Coyotes howling outside my window at night. Thank goodness my Katie is a house cat. Otherwise...
  9. Humble Abode in the Thames Estuary

I could live in one of these beauties, no problem. All I would need is a boat to get to the mainland. Want to move into the one next to mine and be neighbors? Rusty Maunsell Forts The Maunsell Forts were small fortified towers built in the Thames and Mersey estuaries during the Second World War to help defend the United Kingdom. They were named after their designer, Guy Maunsell. The forts were decommissioned in the late 1950s and later used for other activities... pirate radio...
  10. On My Knees ~ Literally

Want to see me on my knees? Knee boarding, that is? I finally edited an old video file down to a smaller size so that I could upload it onto YouTube. The footage was taken in the late 90s on Lake Odessa in Tampa, Florida. My ex-fiance, Rich, and I rented a house on the lake. We called it the picker shack because it was so old and worn down. We only made our home there because we lived to go boating, tubing, and knee boarding. We were obsessed. Plus it was pretty close to the university I was...
  11. Animals, Sex, Meat, and Morals

Kind of a stream of conscious thing on the ethics of eating meat... Why is it acceptable to kill and eat animals but taboo to have sex with them? Let's see, behavior is formally regulated by two major institutions: government and religion. Also, rights are regulated/granted/defined by these as well. Both animal and human. At the begging of civilization, before there was a concept of animal rights, humans were thought to have dominion over animals. They could use them for food and...
  12. No Love

There's no love or joy here anymore. It's all hateful posts and anonymous insults. All the playful banter is gone. All the witty, intelligent, and insightful comments are nowhere to be found. I am one of the last holdouts. It's sad and embarrassing... like I'm sitting on a rock, looking out onto a polluted ocean of dead fish floating on top of the waves. We should visit places that make us feel joyful and happy. I don't get those things from this place. All I feel is hate. Hated. Let's...
  13. Is My Vegan Challenge About Control?

Well of course my vegan challenge is about control. What diet is not about control? Show me a vegan or vegetarian that does not structure his or her diet to get a measure of control over what they consume and I will give you an all-expense-paid trip to Jupiter. Whether one is abstaining from meat, dairy, or fat or increasing protein, there is a goal in mind. Maybe one is eating more ethically, healthily, or to lose weight... or to gain body mass, as body builders are wont to do. All...
  14. Vegan Challenge

    * Week two merged with week one as David extended the text limits. Week three and four will proceed below. Why? Detox, cleanse, reflect, awareness, compassion for self, rebuild. 15. Brain Drain July

**7/21/12 ~ Update at bottom of post... *7/10/12 ~Update near bottom of post... Just as the temperatures outside reach their highs, my cultural pursuits hit all-time lows. Can it get any worse than consuming all three books in the Fifty Shades of Grey series in less than a week’s time? And if that weren’t enough, to continue the obsession by blogging about the books—twice—as if I hadn’t already spent enough time reading the texts? There was the artwork—the painting of Christian Grey....
